I have been here twice for lunch and enjoyed both visits. The marinara was excellent, and a special of chicken with fresh coriander in Turkish bread was a standout favorite. We will definitely go back for dinner soon. Wine list shows plenty of variety and quite fair prices. The view is just wonderful.

We just loved the new look Bistro Vite. As fans of the old one, we were keen to try the new location and we weren't disappointed: same great food and service but less stress due to the great atmosphere.

Enjoyed the night out here. Not sure it's strictly french fare as the name suggests, which was good for us. It was great food. Standouts were very fresh spiced calamari that was light and very tender and a really unique special of sardines that came cleverly wrapped and steaming hot, amongst other very nice dishes. Lots of candles but still plenty of light to see by (I can't stand it when you need a miners light to see in a restaurant) so the ambience was lovely and staff friendly. Will definitely go back again.

Passed the restaurant one day and though we should go one night, and glad we did it was worth the visit. We will be back, thanks for a great night.

Saturday 14th August 2010. Lunch for two adults and one 4 year old. Ordered mains from the specials board. Porterhouse steaks with French fries and Paris butter and steamed green vegetables on the side. Bowl of French fries with mayonnaise for the child.
Staff was friendly and reasonably quick to take our orders and the food arrived within 15 minutes. This is were the positive experience ends. Our stakes came out as close to well done as you could possible imagine, there was only a hint of pink, we had ordered our steaks rare. The steaks were quite large and thin cut, not at all what you would have expected a Porterhouse steak to be in a French bistro.
The meat was served on top of a huge pile of French fries making the fries soggy. The butter on top of the steak was quite flavorless. The steamed vegetables turned out to be frozen green peas and a few snow peas. With a bottle of 2007 Delas cote du rhone which was the only highlight of this lunch, two coffees and one shared dessert the total bill came to $143.00.
We absolutely love French food and there are many French restaurants and bistros in Melbourne that I would recommend but this is not one of them, quite disappointing experience. We will not visit again.

The food was very slow in coming out. Two of us had escargots a la Bourguignonne as entree and it was so-so. Another two shared a pork belly main as an entree, the crackling was so tough it could not be cut with a steak-knife, let alone chew, and the meat had little flavour. The steaks were passable, the blue-eye had little to write home about.
We had to wait over half an hour for the entrees. We had a schedule to keep, so after waiting another half an hour for the mains, we made enquiries. We were informed that it would be 10 minutes. Subsequently we were told it would be 2 minutes, only to be told moments later that there had been a mistake and it would in fact be another 15 minutes.
The price was not cheap and it was not good value for money. Overall it was a disappointing Mother's Day lunch.

I must've had the place on a good night because I'd definitely recommend the place to people. My friend and I started off with the scallops entree, which featured some quite small scallops that had a peculiar flavor, but the black pudding tempura was an incredibly inspired and great tasting addition.
My main was the Bouillabaisse, which generally has a much more watery base than this one had, but that was not a major complaint. Fish was cooked perfectly, a nice assortment and quantity of prawns and mussels, though the clams were bleh.
Dessert was a brownie topped with pistachio ice cream and cherries/cherry sauce. Absolutely divine, the best part of the meal. I'd go back there again for that dish alone.
Ambience is good, hard to beat the location on southbank. Service was good if a bit on the slow side, but to be fair it is a French restaurant, so it's to be expected. Prices were a bit dear, but again, you're paying for location, not necessarily the food or service. A solid restaurant, will be back again at some point.

Nice location along the river, however, this is where it ends for Bistro Vite. Very disappointing food, and hands down the worst restaurant I have been to in Melbourne. The service was friendly enough, however, this could not make up for the leather shoe disguised as a 'wagyu' steak. The duck main was so -so, however, the accompanying coffee sauce was too sweet. Entrees of a 'charcuterie' plate was presented as three different pates/terrines, one of which was entirely inedible. The tasting spoons were insipid or just downright wrong. Definitely not a restaurant worth visiting.

Interesting menu at a reasonable price. Great location and pleasant ambience. Slightly disappointed that they overcooked the steak and there were just far too many chips.
