The food is good here, but too many children, too noisy and the service is just too slow.

We came here on the recommendation of a friend, who'd said that the 'old' chef was back again (after travelling). We'd heard that the food/service had been pretty mediocre late last year, so we were v. glad to find this had changed! The place is has a wonderful, cosy feel, with enough elbow room and a friendly, well-lit dining area.

The food was excellent (we were there on the Easter weekend). I had the French toast with maple syrup and subbed some bacon, it was perfect: richly egged bread and tasty not-too-brittle bacon with just the right drizzle of syrup. My partner had the Bircher muesli and was pleased with that, and another of my eating companions had the Croque Madame (she was in raptures). We also had excellent coffees and were happy spectators of the kitchen's work (there's a cutaway wall).

So, all in all, I'd definitely go back and try other things on the menu. Great place for a lazy weekend brunch/lunch.

I agree with the last review, Birdie Num Nums slipped off my radar and I had very similar experiences. However, I found myself in Nicholson Street today with a friend and decided to give Birdie's one last chance, boy was that a good decision! I started with a perfect and creamy cafe latte and then launched into the Chef's special "Croque Madame", words can't express how much I still was to be eating that! The cheese, the egg, the butter wonderful.

We also ordered the "Deluxe 3 cheese melt" which was rich but lovely also. I was so shocked that the food was good again I told the (readily available and friendly) waiter and he responded with a very interesting "Great! Our Chef has been away on a 6 month world trip and is after comments on his specials, I will go and tell him". So fellow reviewers, risk it, go back, I am next Sunday (Croque Madam here I come!)

I have been a regular at Birdies from the time it opened. For the first year or so it was great, fresh tasty food, good coffee and fast friendly service. Oh, how times have changed.

Over the last couple of months it seems as though the senior staffs and staff have read too many of their own reviews and become lazy. The service has become abysmal, and the chef/s has become lazy with the food. In the past couple of months, the food has become unappetising and I've even had to send one meal back to be redone. More than once, I've received an incorrect order with an item missing (which they still tried to charge for), and on a number of occasions I've waited up to 20 minutes just to even order a coffee. T

The last straw was this morning when I was seated for breakfast and walked out in disgust after waiting 45 minutes to be served. I wasn't even asked if I wanted a drink! There were plenty of staff and hardly any patrons, so there was absolutely no excuse. They've lost me, I won't be going back.

I recently held a birthday party at Birdie Num Nums and was delighted with the service, support and excellent value for money. The quality and the quantity of food far exceeded all of our expectations and I highly recommend that you try this delightful cafe and enjoy the friendly staff, the fabulous food and the absolute bonus is that they have a play area in the courtyard so that parents are able to enjoy themselves and relax as the children are visible, safe and entertained.
