I love Big Mouth, it's cool, it's beautiful and it's the best venue on Acland Street. Great Hash Browns, best ever, house made and great hang over cure. The Dining room is gorgeous and the steak is great. Good to see a big place using top quality local butcher. Keep rockin BM.
This is the first time I've been to Big Mouth for dinner. I've been there plenty of other times during the day, but never before for dinner. For me, I thought it was possible just a tad too dark and the music a little too loud, but just barely. The food was good. My porterhouse was probably the smallest one I've ever encountered before but it was tasty. One friend was also disappointed in the size of his fish and thought it was a little oily. The other meals didn't have any complaints about size.
Service was good, but the waiter had hideous facial piercings which were downright ugly and off-putting. They have no place in a restaurant. Overall, for the sizes offered, the prices were a little high. Probably abut a 6.5, but that isn't an option on the 10-point integer scale, so I decided to round down rather than up. I didn't think it was worth a 7. Rather short-sightedly, I didn't check out the assortment of cakes for dessert. The chocolate pudding took a little too long to arrive, and if I actually looked at the cakes on offer I'd have chosen one of them instead. But hey, it's chocolate. You can't go too far wrong, right?
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to go back again as I live in the area. If I was coming from further afield I might think twice.
I have only ever eaten here for breakfast/brunch and while this was one of my favourite spots a couple of year's ago for a hearty breakfast, I went back in january of this year and was sadly disappointed. I was told by locals things had gone downhill, and it was a shame we chose this place for a family gathering breakfast while some relatives and myself were in town.
They had run out of pancakes (at 9 am on a thursday morning, which I found strange since they are only flour and water, unless they were from a bulk buy and not made on-site fresh), the BLT that was my favourite breakfast apparently now is only available after 11 am, and this meant one of our party had to settle on their 3rd choice of meal.
For a largely empty restaurant, service was slow and unenthusiastic. I left disappointed and won't be heading back since there are so many great places to eat in st kilda and surrounds.
They always get my orders wrong here but I just love the building, am a glutton for punishment and keep going back. Glad I do though as I've noticed a change lately, staff getting friendly, coffee's still hit and miss. Really is St Kilda.
