This is a good Indian restaurant for high quality food and great service. While the food is probably a bit overpriced, the quality is very good. Recommended!
After reading a plathora of raving reviews for this restaurant, I decided to dine at this restaurant on a Friday evening, a busy period for most restaurants. Upon arrival, the service was fairly good and we ordered a fish dish and a plate of seekh kebabs for starters and a chicken curry for our mains. Within 5 minutes of ordering the kebabs were put on our tables and this immediately arose my suspicion that they were frozen.
On having one of them, part of the kebab tasted frozen and the other tasted warm. The fish followed suit and was frozen on the periphery. The mains arrived ten minutes after the starters and was pretty good. Overall, portion size is small to the value of the meal and left me wondering what the hype of this not extraordinary restaurant is all about!
If only I'd read these reviews before going to Bhoj last Friday night. My partner and I regularly eat Indian food, and decided to venture down to Docklands for a change, so Bhoj was the obvious choice. Suffice to say, we were shunted into the tent outside (despite asking to be seated inside, where there were only a handful of diners) and forced to sit beside a plastic window that was flapping with the wind.
We ordered a eggplant and coconut curry and a lamb korma-like dish. Both failed miserably. I can say without any exaggeration that these were the most bland, boring and tasteless curries we've ever eaten. How Bhoj manages to scoop the awards pools (just check out their many certificates/awards inside the door) is beyond comprehension.
Regardless of the food, the place is falling apart, literally. The menus are only just holding together and the bathrooms have bits of metal sheeting peeling off the wall. And there was no liquid soap in the soap dispenser when I visited along with bits of toilet paper everywhere. I definitely wouldn't return here or recommend it to anyone.
The ambience and feel of the restaurant are great. When you first walk in your first impression is that it is going to be something special. Service is average, the waiters are competent but not in the least bit personable and will not go out of their way to be friendly. Tandoori entree's were all well below par. The meats were all well cooked but there were no flavours evident. Curries were better than average without being great. Naan bread were nice and crisp and rice was well cooked.
Wine list is comprehensive but overpriced, as is almost everything else in docklands. Value is not there, the same meal will cost you $70 - $80 dollars (dinner for two - 3 courses) in the suburbs or even in the city and the food will be better. Cost over $100 at Bhoj.
Overall the restaurant is not bad but could be so much better with some decent front of house staff and a new menu and kitchen staff.
Don't bother going here, its a waste of hard earned money, time and effort. I don't remember having such a worst evening for a while. Food is way overpriced, quality is below average, quantity is mean, service is appalling and half of the seating don't have a back rest so the guests get tired and leave quick enough to make way for more customers, not to mention too many tables cramped on the floor that makes the waiters brush against seated customers! I won't be surprised if this place goes out of business in a year or two.
Food is definitely meehhhhh. I went on a dreadful, soggy day and I got more depressed with the food they served up. Attentive and polite service is the only saving grace. Better options (and cheaper!) elsewhere.
An indian restuarant with water views.
The food is average with the produce used being of standard commercial quality.
No creativity was demonstrated.
The consistency was average.
Will not spend hard earned money
I have been to many indian restaurants in Melbourne, be it the cheapest or the expensive ones. I crave for good indian food. Bhoj was the worst experience I have ever had in my life! My uncle came from U.S.A from some business. I was meeting him after 7 years. I decided to take him to Bhoj at docklands. We ordered 2 Konkan Fish curries, 1 chicken Tikka Masala, different types of Breads (Naans).
We got our food exact after 55 minutes even though the restaurant was not busy. The fish curry they got was not cooked properly! we could taste raw masala! my uncle pulled my leg as he had told me to pick up a restaurant for me for dinner!
The curry was liquid like water! Chicken Tikka masala was so bad that I wish I could have taken my uncle to a cheaper restaurant where he would have taste good indian food in Melbourne.
Naans were alright. Spicy salad was disappointing and not good for $6. The above curries were for $21 and trust me it was not worth even $5. Overall, in the end, my uncle told me that only the "water" they served was good! we had the same opinion. With such an experience, I will never ever go to Bhoj. I would rather prefer going to small indian restaurant with good food.
This place is the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. Also the waiters are rude and the service is awful. And don't bother going to this restaurant if you have a pram. They will tell you that you cannot dine there cause they cannot accommodate a pram.
I am so surprised at the reviews here, I thought the food was absolutely amazing! The best Indian I have ever had, rich and filling. I was also stoked at their vego options as being a vegetarian I'm not usually will accommodated for, so if anyone finds they don't like their food, maybe try the veg options.
I also thought the service was great and the value very good, maybe a little expensive for Indian but better than any other restaurants of its calibre I'v been to.
