The Bengal Tiger sits on the corner of City Road and Montague Street in South Melbourne as a landmark for food lovers and passers-by alike since 1982.
With 28 years in operation it is one of the oldest Indian Restaurants in Melbourne which are still operational.
The food is predominantly north Indian with a few dishes influenced by regional cuisines. Signature dishes like the Bengal Tiger Special, Jhinga Malabar and Chicken Kofta are a fusion on Indo-western cuisine. The chefs with a combined experience of over 60 years have created some mouth-watering dishes which tantalise the tastebuds.
Bengal Tiger is perfect for a quite dinner with someone close to the heart or a special event whether it be a birthday, engagement or a corporate launch. With 2 separate dining areas which cater for up to 70 and 28 diners respectively, it could be the perfect venue for your next function.

The food was terrible I thought. The naan was dry as if it was stale. I would not recommend to anyone. The service was good though.
Response from Management:
Thanks for your views Meefk. Just wanted to clarify if you dined there or got takeaway. Either way you would have been able to see the Naan being made fresh in the tandoor which is visible to the diners.

I thought the food and service were really good, however, my partner felt ill after eating there.

Last night (27th April), I had the pleasure of visiting the Bengal Tiger for the first time. I was met by the owner who led me to my seat and brought out the menus. She explained the menu for that evening. Basically, for $20 a head we could taste up to 14 items. These included samosas, onion bhaji to name a few.
The meals were delicious and the service was impeccable. It was so good in fact that I have booked my b'day dinner there for this month. The service was excellent, the ambience was lovely, and I would have to say that it was one of the best Indian restaurants that I have ever eaten it.

Perhaps, they were having a bad day, but service was slow (we waited over an hour for food), and the senior staff/wait staff made a mistake on the order, and insisted that we pay extra for something that we never got. Food and ambience was good as stated by some of the other people, but the mixup on the order left a sour taste in our mouths. That side of it could have been dealt with more professionally.

The food was good and also the service. There was a mistake in the order but that was dealt with professionally and treated us respectfully. Awesome venue to be with family and loved ones.

We went for fathers day celebration and tell you what they made us feel special. Dad was given a glass of port on the house and we all were given candies. I loved the service and meals as ever but its just the little thing that make your evening special and boy they know how to make it for you. Thumbs up for Bengal Tiger.

We really love this place; we have become regulars there despite the fact that is over 1/2hr drive from home. It's quite a large place and dim lit so perfectly romantic. The service has always been nothing short of fantastic just like the food. Chef also make dishes according to my taste so it's just a matter of asking for who do not like spiced food. Highly recommended.

Lives up to its name. We ordered the banquet. Food was delish and it was very filling. Wait staff is very friendly. Will go there again.

I found this place awfully cold. It's brick inside, painted deep purple. Maybe it was a cold Melbourne day or something. The food was OK but not extraordinary. It's very close to my house.. maybe I should go again and give it another go.

Best Indian in Melbourne as far as I'm concerned and the service is, if anything a little too enthusiastic but you can't knock that. Highly recommended.
