I have eaten here several times. The lunch menu is not as good as the dinner menu. The chef's Morocan and Indian dishes are fantastic! The home made cakes and desserts are out of this world. And the ambience is beautiful and service very friendly.
I went there with seven friends on a Saturday night, one of whom is a vegetarian. We waited more than 30 minutes for the waitress to take our orders and well over 30 minutes more before we got the meals. The only menu to look at was on the blackboard on the far wall opposite us - difficult to read for some of us with ailing eyes. I thought the menu was fairly limited. Three ordered the stir fried chilli prawns with squid which although nice was a paltry serving consisting of two prawns and a few slices of squid with the bulk of the small bowl filled with white rice. At $26 - overpriced.
The Moroccan lamb four others had was tasteless, tough and dry. At $22 - a poor choice. The vegetarian had the Palouni (?) Fried cheese on a salad, which was much too salty. The ambience was good although we were at tables near the front door and every time there was the slightest breeze we received lungful of smoke from the smokers standing just outside. We took our own drinks so I did not see the prices for the house's wines/beers. Would we go again? Definitely not.
We sat outside in the lovely garden with our grown up children and their two two year olds, everything was yummy, so relaxed, and healthy, we had a really happy experience there.
It really is a beautiful building but the staff seem to wander around smiling without being helpful, took ages to get our meal which was disappointing, as it wasn't at all busy. We ordered three different things but they all tasted the same. Everything was very overpriced & I can't afford to go there again, especially with all the other cafes that have great food & great prices. the coffee was ok but not the best I have had.
Wonderful food in a wonderful setting. The coffee is great, and the chocolate muffins are to die for if you can get any before they are all snapped up! Meals are also wonderful, and cater to those who are looking for organic, fair trade, non-GM....hence the prices can be a bit steep, but it's worth it!!
What gorgeous building, but what a stunning let down. Waited far too long for service, the staff were pleasant enough but really didn't seem worried about anything other than smiling. The food was bland and tasteless, and overpriced for what was offered. It was my second trip there but I won't be going again.
+10 of the food, ambience & service! & when it comes to value, you're getting organic produce so I feel it's better to put your money where your mouth is. If you want to support an industry that you believe is invaluable but some may not place the same worth.
The music is always stunning & you feel as though you're the only one there even when it's full by the way the food, music & mostly the friendliness of the staff captivate your senses but make note that even though they have live music, you can still easily have a conversation without raising your voice - a truly magical experience!
Very good food and enjoyable not too intrusive live music. My husband and I had a lovely night. We had an entree between us and then mains. Food serves not overly large, but some interesting dishes on the menu.
While the food was very nice, the value for money was abysmal. Very high prices for very small servings. If you're coming in from Hawthorn for the day, you'll probably love it. If you're actually from the Hills you may have to take out a second mortgage to eat in your own town.
Adore the organic quality food. The service is quick and very friendly. The new venue is great for sunny (outside patio and lawn) and cold (inside- fireplace). Love to relax with a drink on Sunday to live music. My kids love it during the day and my friends and I enjoy the night...ok, perhaps, the day too, addicted to the chai tea.
