Overview of Becco

Established in 1996, Becco has become a Melbourne icon. It is the go-to place for lunch or dinner or drinks at its fantastic bar. You can also dine outside in a New Yorkesque laneway. The a la carte menu is modern Italian—from the pasta, fish and meat to the side dishes. Savoury desserts and cheese round up the meals. Becco has a warm elegance to its interiors, the warm lighting perfect for intimate dinners. Becco’s tiered design gives it a theatrical ambience that’s just right for parties, weddings and other events.

This is a nice place with very simple crisp food. The fish I had there was divine The service is sharp but not intrusive and most importantly the staff are very friendly. Very busy place so u must book. Highly recommend it.

I had lunch here 2 days after eating at Italy1. Two similar restaurants so it was interesting to compare them. My opinion, Italy1 wins on food and Becco wins on ambience/atmosphere.

I started with an entree of boned garfish stuffed with a herb mousse. I couldn't work this dish out. It was served to me very close to stone cold but was it meant to be like that or was it meant to be hot? If it was meant to be cold then I think the kitchen should reconsider because it just wasn't a pleasant temperature/texture combination. If it was meant to be hot then sending it out so cold is inexcusable of a restaurant of this ambition.

Next I had the tagliatelle special. Again there was a distinct lack of heat about this dish. The tagliatelle themselves were very bland though the basil broth added a nice flavor. Neither dish was very memorable though my companions were happier with what they ordered (duck and calamari).

Service is attentive and professional and the winelist reasonably extensive (though no Heathcote Shiraz!). The room is fun, lots of activity and hustle and bustle.
Personally I think if you could take Italy1's food and put it into Becco's dining room then you would have close to a damn fine Italian restaurant.

As it is, it's really hard to forgive the food that was served given the prices and reputation of this place.

Attentive service, but beware if ordering bottled water, as it may end up costing as much as the wine. Very good wine list with a range of half bottles and wines by the glass. Exemplary spaghettini with crab and chili, moist veal cutlet, duck, fresh salads, wonderful dessert and coffee. A favorite bistro with high end restaurant prices that continues to do enough, though would be considered pricey for the food.

I visited Becco for the first time (with my husband, a regular visitor). I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The location and ambience made for a perfect evening. I had heard so much about the iconic restaurant so thought I may have got my hopes up. I was not disappointed.

The service was exceptional as was the timing between meals. Our waitress was knowledgeable on the menu and didn't miss a beat. We had a wonderful 3 course meal and I thought my husband had died and gone to heaven as he consumed the roast duck. I ordered tagliatelle with crab, chilli and garlic. It was very tasty, however slightly oily but that certainly didn't stop me from polishing off every mouthful.

I passed on my feedback to the waitress so she could let the chef know. As we were about to have our departure latte, she arrived with a sweet treat to make up for my slightly oily pasta. Completely unexpected just added to the great service and evening.

I recently had dinner with a group of 8 others. The service was very attentive, I had a time constraint which they were very accommodating and aware of throughout our meal. The atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing. The wine list was very good and the food generally nice, but entree serves small. There was also too much olive oil on most things for my taste. The Spaghettini with tuna and tomato was nice.

Not every restaurant is for everyone, and this one certainly wasn't for me. The bread and olive oil was nice, but the bruschetta was unispiring. For mains we had lamb shanks and lamb and risotto. Talk about loaves and fishes - with serves this size you could feed all of Palestine on a single sheep. I had four slices of lamb fillet atop my (gluggy) rice and jb had less than one shanks' worth of meat plus a fried gnoccho. For $70. We didn't stay for dessert.

I love this restaurant! I have been twice and on both occasions this restaurant never faults. The food is beautiful, I can really recommend the duck and the stuffed olives, well the best I have ever tasted. Becco you are 5 star, my favourite restaurant in Australia!
