I come to this little Italian gem in Camberwell sometimes, with romantic candles lit on empty Chianti wine bottles, and the warm bread served with butter is amazing.
The food is nothing extravagant by any mean, it's mostly run-of-the-mill Italian stable food. Sometimes the food is spot-on, whereas other nights the pasta might be mushy and the sauces quite thin and even oily. Very good coffee here, even if it's commercial brand.
Would come here again definitely, but mainly for the atmosphere rather than the overly not-as-memorable food.
My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of dining at Amici Trattoria recently and had the most wonderful and romantic dinner ever. The service was great, the waiters all very friendly and more than willing to please.
The meals were extremely generous and we couldn't help ourselves, ordering entree, main and dessert as everything sounded (and tasted) so delicious!! The evening was really enjoyable, with soft Italian music playing, candle lit tables and a busy Trattoria style atmosphere. We couldn't have asked for more. We'd recommend Amici to all our friends.
This is a good, reliable eatery. However, it is very dark and crammed. Tables are very close together, diners are very close and there is not much room to move between the chairs. However, the food is good - the bruschetta is very messy to eat, you must slice your own crumbly bread and the tomato salsa gets everywhere, but the pastas are good and service good.
Spaghetti for the spaghetti and meatballs was badly overcooked and mushy. Meatballs were overcooked and tough. The also didn't clean the tablecloth from what looked like food but felt like wax drippings, only covering it up with a darker tablecloth. Too expensive for the average quality. How do you screw up spaghetti and meatballs?
Have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and enjoy the food, ambience and value for money. I've found the brothers who own the restaurant always make you feel at home. The fact that the place is always full speaks volumes.
Writing this review the day after dining at Amici, I am still disappointed by the horrible experience we had. Between very incompetent staff who not once, but twice managed to give our entrees and mains to the table next to us, the less than mediocre food that was not worth it's price and the waiting of over an hour and a half for mains, it was truly an unpleasant experience. A great restaurant for people that Do Not appreciate quality Italian food and service.
Service was absolutely disgraceful to the point of being insulting. Treated as if we were a burden to the waitress and the owner. Had to wait far too long for service. Food itself was fairly average, hardly worth the wait. Don't ever eat here unless you enjoy being treated like dirt.
