OMG!!!! what a great little hidden treasure.
My girlfriend and I stumbled across this little restaurant by accident a couple of months ago, and we were very impressed. It was a spur of the moment decision for us and we arrived without a reservation on a very busy saturday night, there were no tables available at this time, however, the man at the door did ask us if we would like to take a seat at the bar and have a drink because there will be a table available in about 20 minutes.
Within 10 minutes of waiting were seated. Now there is a couple of things I must compliment on, first, when we were seated at the table the man pulled our chairs out for us, I have not seen this done for many years. Second, after being seated we were advised us that there is a very large group upstairs that is about to order and if we like, we have the option to order straight away so that we may avoid any delays in getting our meals.
Third, the guy also pointed out by Name that "carly" will be our waiter for the evening. altho I did find the man at the door to be a bit "camp/snobbish" for this style of establishment, however, his professionalism was very noticeable. 20 minutes into our dinner and my girlfriend and I were extremely impressed at the service. Carly was an absolute gem, very bright very bubbly and Very attentive!!!!!!
Now the meals were fantastic, I had the salami oysters as the entree, which were very different but very tasty, I had the saltimbocca chicken as my main, which again was a taste sensation and I finished off with the bread and butter pudding, which I have to say is the Best I have ever had. My girlfriend started off with the potato bread, which I had a piece of, and the mix of flavours were perfect. She had as her main the salmon, which was a little overcooked, but she said it still tasted good, and she didn't have dessert as she was too full by this time.
But I did have to fight her off my pudding once she had a taste of it. Overall this was a very refreshing experience to find such a place to eat at, the only thing we can really find fault with is that it does get a little noisy but as with most places you get that when there are alot of people there.
Absolutely wonderful place to dine, have been here on many occasions and every time is as good as the last. Holding a birthday party, they calculate the bill individually based on seat numbers rather than table numbers. All around fantastic service with delicious meals!
We went to Ambrosia in a group of 17 and were seated in a small 'function' room. The room had one long table in it and another smaller one toward the front and because of the size of the room, it was incredibly 'Loud' and the more we drank, the louder it got!! I know that no one wants to go to dinner and have a group of people getting noisy but it was almost impossible to hear the person next to you die to the confines of this room!
That aside, we had a set menu, $37 a head for entree and main. I had a Tapas plate and a Ceaser Salad that I shared with my partner, both were very nice but nothing spectacular. The mains however were a different story. Most of us ordered Porterhouse and I don't think anyone got theirs cooked the way they wanted it.
I asked for rare and got medium, another medium rare and got medium, another medium well, got something between medium rare and medium. It was a real disappointment the way the steaks were cooked (one person simply didn't eat his). My partner had Salmon which she said was really nice. I would have thought cooking steaks for everyone would make the kitchens job easier but it seems they really struggled.
Another thing I noticed was everyone's steaks were different sizes, some substantially larger than others, some thin, some thick, it was real pot luck. There were bugger all vegetables, a bit of creamy mash and a couple of beans under the meat. Not real great!
The service was pretty good although a number of times I had to go searching for someone to get me a drink, others on the table had to do the same thing. All in all I was a little disappointed. I had heard that this was a great place to eat but it runs a very very distant 2nd.
What can I say I love this place, I am constantly impressed with the food and service. The menu is always changing with the season so it is never dull and boring. The ambience is wonderfull you never feel like you are being pushed out so they can get another paying table in. Staff are happy and friendly. This place is a diamond.
What more can I say. I have to keep coming back for more! Great food, drink's, service, and selection. Fantastic value for money! Great job guys keep it up, a real pleasure to eat out here any time of the week!
Love it here. A touch of the city to Berwick, no theming of the restaurant, or old fashioned country feel. Extensive tapa menu, delicious produce & cute food store stuff. Great wine list & boutique beers on tap. Delicious. We had a table of 20 which was no problem at all!
Modern restaurant with a diverse menu and good vegetarian options. Food presentation is excellent. Ambience is relaxed. Improved service would bring this restaurant to a new level.
