Dis-honest service, I'll never go there again.‎ Today we had lunch at Alasya & ordered a main each & nothing else. Whilst waiting for the mains one of the waitresses offered us a basket of bread. We thought that this was free until we went to pay the bill. The cashier charged us for bread at $1.50 per person. When I told her that we didn't order it she asked it we wanted to pay for half of it.

Eventually when she realised that she couldn't coerce us to pay for the bread & cheat us on the bill she gave us the correct change. I returned a few minutes later for a copy of the order & a receipt she banged her fist on the bench & told me they don't keep copies of orders. This was a really bad experience & it's not the money that concerns me. It was how the restaurant mis-led us into thinking that the bread placed on our table was free.

This place is a real time capsule. Opened in 1979, it doesn't look as if much has changed since 1986.

Food: For the price (which is good), the food is surprisingly good. The selection of dips is excellent, but be prepared for large portions. (8)

Ambience: Kitschy honey pine wood panels the walls, dirty old menu pictures from the 1970's - this is old school Melbourne at it's best. (10 or 3 depending on your sensibilities).

Service: Can be up and down. Sometimes you can be waiting a while for somebody to take your order. Also if you want some of the more "exotic" items on the menu, be prepared for them not to be on that night (I've been going here for years and have found this to be consistent). (6)

Value: Hey, it's Turkish, it's cheap. Plus it's open till very late most nights. (8)

Where else can you be served a ten course meal at a table at 4 am? The ambience is great, crazy 70s wooden panelling everywhere. The bread is exceptional as is the ispanak and other fresh pastries. It's not really the place for haute cuisine but it is an institution and it is also very cheap.

I've really enjoy the 6 or so dips I've tried. The fresh, hot turkish bread they serve you is a winner. You get as much bread as you can eat. My friends and I always eat way too much, it's so good and moorish!

The donor chicken is as it should be - crunchy, fatty and delicious. Not exactly health food, but ok once in a while.

The food was terrible yogurt dips were sour, the lamb had an expiry date smell to it, side plates were not served for your salad or rice. I asked for an espresso and the waiter explained that they do not make espresso but offered a short black instead. The premise seemed unclean. Never will I go back and I could only wonder after the food poising show case that it would have improved.

It feels very unclean, however it is always popular. Very standard Turkish food. We have been a few times and have been disappointed both times, it's okay if you want a kebab or mixed grill but other than that not much choice. They do make good Bakalava though.

I used to love this place until one meal there ruined my desire to ever go back. Food was firstly never served then after a query, it was served cold and then they told us we would have to pay full price even though we hardly touched the meals. Never going back.
