Good service, good food, relaxed environment. We just shared a few entrees and they were all good. I recommend the pork belly, didn't think much of the zucchini flowers though. If you are in the Hunter this was the best place I went to, so give it a try you won't be disappointed.

This is a great little restaurant. Very unpretencious, with a lovely setting overlooking a dam. Service can be a little unpredictable, but always friendly and relaxed, which definitely acceptable in this environment. Food is always good, but the wine list could be improved. Of all the Hunter Valley restaurants, this is one I would most recommend for a cruisy lunch.

Went here after wandin estate was booked out. At first glance the menu looked good but pricey. Nevertheless we decided to stay and I'm glad we did. J had the fish and chips and I had the Malay chicken. Mine was outstanding, a very delicate, tasty dish. Fish and chips were above par and generously sized but probably a bit pricey for what it was. Desserts looked really good.

I cannot say enough good things about Leaves & Fishes, but I'm going to give it a solid crack! After hearing rave reviews from friends about this place we made it a must-do during a recent weekend in the Hunter. Where to start?
The service was uber friendly and relaxed, just the right amount of care and attention but keeping it low key and laid back enough to keep you completely at ease. We were seated in what I now think were the best seats in the house, a nice quiet 2 seater in the back corner overlooking the dam with the fish literally swimming at my feet! Water was trickling gently over the eaves next to me and the sunlight was peeking in gently through the blinds, ugh, now I'm sounding mushy, but it really was that picture perfect!
The menu here suggests that both their entrees and mains and for one or to share, and that is quite literally the case. The servings are enormous, and after beginning with some truly delightful ciabatta, dukkah and local feta (so good we tracked it down and bought some) we dived gleefully into the pork belly with papaya and pancetta, easily making short work of it. We didn't want to share our mains, feeling greedy, so rolled out of the restaurant after ridiculously wonderful portions of Malay Chicken and Whole Snapper.
Put it this way, we loved this place enough that before we'd even left we'd decided that we would happily make a day trip to the Hunter purely to have lunch here. Do not miss this place!

My partner and I went here for lunch after being recommended. We choose to make this our 'nice restaurant' to go to on a week long holiday. Food was beautiful, we had the duck and fish and chips followed by chocolate brownie. A lovely restaurant to be in with friendly service. Will recommend Leaves and Fishes to all family and friends when in the Hunter Valley.

On a good friends recommendation we headed to Leaves and Fishes for lunch on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon to celebrate our second anniversary.
All in all, we had a beautiful lunch! Fantastic service, wonderful food and pretty views.
The food was tasty. Very very tasty! I have never been a big seafood person and I have never eaten soft shell crab – although I devoured the soft shell crab entree dish. Legs and all! They crispy skinned duck was so delicious. I wanted to lick the bottom of the plate – the ginger butter was divine.
I was mesmerized by the fish that happily swam around the dam which I could see from our table. The kitchen provided me with a massive bowl of bread to feed the fish after the meal.
We had a lovely waitress: happy, friendly, personable. On each course, she checked up on us.
It’s a very relaxed yet sophisticated restaurant. I would definitely recommend Leaves and Fishes!

Went here last weekend. Food was lovely. Service ok. Went with a big group. Not cheap. Lighting a little dark, alot of squinting. Very cold at night. Back of restaurant has some plastic sides on it.

Fabulous! We sat at a lovely big chunky table next to a couple of whingers who ordered one thing then realised it wasn't what they thought it was going to be so blamed it on the staff. The staff were very patient and polite and the customers were an embarrassment. We almost said something to them but realised there is no keeping some people happy. Perhaps, we were sitting next to Wossum.
This is a lovely venue set on a deck half over a dam where you can watch fish leisurely swimming about. Nice rich chunky wooden tables, chairs and benches both inside and out, each with casual dressings. Service is friendly and casual. Food is fabulous.
There are plenty of places in the Hunter Valley that won't hold a candle to this place. Not the cheapest place around but you get what you pay for. Very good food and service in lovely surroundings, even has a bit of a romantic feel about it. Highly recommended.

I can't believe the review's I've read here. My god if there was ever a try hard restaurant this is it.
The food is enticing on the menu but no one with a tongue tasted it. The fish is so salty you want to barf, the entree was bland and nothing like what I read on the menu. Just because you're in the hunter does not mean you need to eat this slop. Go and get fish and chips from anywhere and you will be happy, this place to anyone that has Any idea about food would make you wish you stayed at home and had wheat bix. You have been warned.
