Unfortunately, after looking forward to a good night out we were a local group very disappointed with the hospitality of the restaurant. We were having a good night with laughter and good fun but were denied, being humiliated by being told we were intoxicated after a few drinks and a laugh.

Tremendous coeliac-friendly restaurant situated on beautiful Hunter Valley grounds. Local eggs and bacon, far superior to city produce. Perfect for Sunday breakfast or brunch. We'll be back.

Selected as my wife is a coeliac and therefore intolerant of gluten. As it turns out, so is the chef at the restaurant, Julie - who has done a fantastic job in creating a menu where 90% is gluten free - but if you are non-coeliac like me, you would not know. Menu is very good as is the taste and presentation of the food. Would recommend for anyone - but for any coeliacs or others intolerant of gluten, it is one restaurant where you can actively participate in a range of options in all courses, from the gluten free bread rolls through to dessert. The menu is apparently very vegetarian free too. We also had the opportunity to talk with chef Julie about her passion and experiences in developing this restaurant and this shows through in her food. Well done - and thank you for being a restaurant that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed.

J and I were starving so we were here first thing for breakfast. As a result we had the place to ourselves, at least for a while. I had the poached eggs on toast with bacon, and j got a chorizo, and white bean sort of stew. Both were excellent.

Hard to comment on ambience or service when busy given it was empty for us, but we had no complaints. Food was locally sourced, fresh and very tasty. The price was pretty reasonable for the hunter, just under $40 for two, inc coffee. Much better than the mill where we went yesterday. Recommended.

I chose Cracked Pepper for lunch as the menu offered a diverse menu for adults, but also because the restaurant offered an excellent childrens menu. I was not disappointed, the food was A class, the service was excellent, and all in a lovely winery setting in the Hunter Valley. I will certainly go back, the home made ice-cream was stunning! A highly recommended restaurant for families wanting somewhere special to go out for lunch together!

One of Hunter Valley's gems! We were seated next to the window, the view was lovely and so was the service. The food was a little bit slow to come out but it was definitely worth the wait. My partner had a deliciously cooked and tender pork belly and I had wonderful beer battered jumbo prawns. The portion sizes were decent, a very good lunch experience!

Ambience and service were great. We had 2 small boys with the party and the staff were most accommodating, giving them pencils to draw with. The restaurant has an intimate, earthy feel, which is exactly what you expect in the Hunter.

Unfortunately, the food was lack lustre. We ordered mostly vegetarian and the gnocchi and ravioli dishes were boring and the flavours rather bland. The pumpkin tartlet was disappointing in size, cost and taste. I can, however, give the award to the molten chocolate pudding, which was the highlight of the night. My best friend and I were licking our plates!

As the food was nothing special, I've given it a 6 in value. (Would have been lower had the pudding not been so divine). Too overpriced for food that fails to impress. However, thanks to the owners for offering the mains in two sizes.

This is my favourite Hunter Valley restaurant. The service is fantastic and the ladies are really helpful. The sourdough rolls with olive oil and balsamic and dukkah are surpisingly good and the mains are generous serving sizes. I've eaten here a few times and never been disappointed.

I really hate to leave a less glowing review for Cracked Pepper as the service was great and the ladies very friendly, and good with our toddler. But our group thought it had the ambience of a hospital cafeteria and the food ok, but not amazing.

We went for lunch and thought the menu looked interesting, but some of the flavours didn't work that well. The fish and chips were great, I should say, fresh, moist, generous portion, we all dipped into them. However, the mussels and saffron fettuccine were just pretty good, and the lamb loin on minted pea puree tasted a little strange to me and the lamb less tender than expected.

I'd like to try it again as they did have a lot of variety on the menu and I like that they offer 2 sizes of many of the options.
