Nice surprise finding a restaurant of this standard in a Club. Friendliness and service by staff was outstanding. Food was tasty and just right. Good choice of starters. Could have been a few more veggies served with the mains. Wine list a bit too extensive but was a good range. Not the cheapest food around but good value given the quality. Will be back next visit to Gold Coast.
I was pleasantly surprised when my friends and I dined at Alleys. Firstly, the decor and atmosphere was so trendy and up market, then the friendliness and reception we received from the staff, it was more than we expected. We sat overlooking the water and dined lavishly, ordering entrees, mains, desserts and quite a bit of wine and everything was great. I appreciated the wine list having a varied selection but not so many wines that it got confusing. And kisses to the chefs, everything was as it should have been! Thanks again and see you soon!
This large restaurant has had an impressive fitout and makeover including the staff uniforms, even reminiscent of a Sydney 4 star restaurant but that's about where the good news stops..
The menu is huge covering all genre's of food and will satisfy most diners, but nothing is done well and this appears to be its downfall. Every dish is well presented and garnished, but breaking it all down it was sub standard, especially with the asking prices.
We ordered salt & pepper squid, it was tough as and maybe they should invest in a cement mixer to soften it up and maybe change the oil in ther fryers a bit more often. The mixed 'exotic' olives entree consisted of 2 green olives, 4 Kalamata's and 4 black olives - obviously dished straight out of jars and at $8 - disgraceful. The rocket and butternut pumpkin salad however was fresh and good flavour with a light balsamic dressing.
Our mains consisted of Surf & Turf, which consisted of a tough piece of sirloin steak topped with a quarter of a lobster sitting on a bed of bland mashed potato, we expected far better and especially when this was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu ! While the other fillet mignon was again a nice sizeable portion, ordered medium rare and delivered raw and which belonged in the Tepanyaki restaurant down the road ! Luckily I enjoy Japanese cuisine just as much. The mountain of accompanied vegetables were simply overcooked straight out of a bain marie somewhere deep in the gourmet kitchen.
Service wise the staff are reasonably attentive, but with so many tables and diners I can see how they get lost and how they can digest the contents of the enormous menu obviously eludes them and me !
