This is a must visit restaurant whenever I go to the Gold Coast. In fact it is the only hatted restaurant (I think) in the latest Gourmet Traveller rankings in the Gold Coast. The degustation menu is a must and has some very unique tastes at a fantastic price. The wine list is excellent and equals anything in Sydney. Considering it is at the base of the Q1, one would expect a bit more ambience, but alas, you can't have everything.
Update - service somewhat fell apart on my last visit and the service manager wasn't very helpful in solving the problem in the restaurant that was distracting the majority of the patrons from having a decent night.
Brilliant! My wife and I took the a la carte option on a Monday night. Fantastic food, most impressive wine list, and highly professional, efficient service. Expensive, but worth it if you're splashing out. Try the Absynthe Champaigne Cocktail!
I think their food quality and innovation is comparable to Tetsuya. I had their degustation and it was divine. The texture and taste is designed to perfection. I really recommended people to try if they are in Gold Coast! I will definitely go back next time. Too bad it is not in Sydney!
We were a group of friends from Sydney trying to find a classy restaurant to avoid the Australia Day crowds and we found it here. The food was amazing, the service impecable and the experience was divine. Couldn't fault the place.
Dinner for two on a weeknight - we had the degustation with matching wines for $195pp. The courses had varying levels of the 'wow-factor' and the serving sizes were abysmal especially when served with a glass of wine per course. We were asked whether we would like still or sparkling water, we chose sparkling and our glasses were filled on several occasions without us asking for this to be done.
At the end of the meal we were asked if we would like coffees and we ordered two short blacks, these came out with a small plate of petite fours which we did not ask for. We had a reasonably enjoyable experience until we received the bill. What should have been $390 became over $500 because we had been charged $30 for the water that kept coming without our request, a shocking $36 for the two short blacks, we had even been charged for the two bread rolls we'd eaten! On top of all that we were hit with a 20% service charge because it was a public holiday but this was not displayed anywhere on the menu, or in the restaurant, nor were we advised of this upon booking or upon ordering.
On top of all this we still had a tip to leave for the wait staff. We were very disappointed with what we feel were deceptive charges and will never be back for this very reason.
My husband and I dined from the a la carte menu several months ago - and we're still raving about it (and we're hard to please). The combination of flavours were sublime.
My wife and I went to this restaurant for the Sat night degustation as an anniversary celebration.
I know I am going against the popular trend here, but we found the experience to be very average. While the food was quite good, it dragged on and on (we were averaging one course per hour!). The servings were tiny - this is the only degustation I have had where I have left feeling like I could have had more. The food was also over-done and the chef has a fascination with foam sauces.
We had the wine degustation which was also quite average. Average wines and certainly not worth the additional $75 per head. All in all, we were very disappointed with the experience for the price charged.
