Room81 lacks an identity of what it is: Is it a restaurant? Is it a bar? Is it a nightclub? It tried to do all three and failed miserably! On Saturday night we dined there expecting quality food in a relaxed atmosphere suited to the comfortable digestion of their degustation menu. What we got was diesel fumes from tourist buses. Yes, our table was in the driveway to the hotel! Could not taste the food! We asked for a different table and on the third request we were granted.

We were moved to a bar area where a party was going on. People bumping into our chairs, drunk behaviour and obnoxiously loud conversations. Then the DJ started up! This was at 7:30pm! The food is great, the service is great, the management and the structure of the establishment lets Room81 down. We are not going back.

We never had the chance to taste the food as the service was so disgusting.

We went in early to set up for a birthday which we had been informed we could do. Upon producing a single helium balloon we were pounced upon by a manager who said it ruined the look of his restaurant and that the balloon was just not allowed.

We were upset and his response was "put yourself in my shoes". We cancelled our booking and walked across the road to Lauxes which were more than happy to provide us with a last minute table for six, free cakeage for our cake etc etc. What a difference.

The pretentious snobby attitude of the manager was the absolute undoing of our much anticipated evening and thus we would recommend no one dine there.
