Large group of us dined at this Chinese come Thai restaurant. The vast array of dishes we selected were very average to say the least with bland flavours, I guess watered down to suit a childs tastebuds. Service was none too friendly to boot with pushy waiters showing no patience when taking our order and later standing behind us demanding that we hand them empty plates. Suit families with a heap of kids, imo.

I was impressed by the food, four dishes (Beef Salad, Basil Chilli Tofu, Chu Chee Seafood and Garlic Prawn) we've ordered have authentic taste (for my Thai tongue). The service was wonderful, very warm welcome and food served quickly. The price is not expensive if you compare with other Thai restaurants in Gold Coast.

It is not Thai food. It's washed up all u can eat Chinese. The decor and crowd made it seem all well and nice along with the awards but, who are handing these out?
Firstly, 1 out of 5 waiters understand the menu, I mean it's ok to not be able to speak perfect English, but at least know what's on the menu's. We were waiting out front for 5 minutes before even looked at by a waiter even though 5 walked straight past.
The entree was fried in greasy oil days old you can taste and smell straight away. (we had soft shell crab and quail). The lamb salad was overlooked and flavorless, only fishy from the sauce. The tamarind duck was a complete mess, deep fried sweet and sour kantong can stuff. The tamarind flavour was drowned by grease and capsicum, not depth and complexity you usually get from it.
Overall, will never recommend this restaurant.

We are from Sydney and have had extremely good experience with this thai restaurant and as the food always had very authentic thai flavours and we were looking forward to dining there again. This time, however, the food was very ordinary : luke warm food and rice, blend flavours, very oily, poor service, we had to wave the waiters to come to our table a number of times before we got service.
The food had more chinese flavours and we had to request that they add more flavours in order to get some satisfaction with the food. They also would not add chillies in the food when we requested it if it was not normally added in that particular dish. The head waiter was very blase when we showed dissatisfaction with the food. We were told that the main cook was now in the new restaurant recently opened. They received awards every year until 2009 which probably explains the above situation.

We dined at the new restaurant across from pacific fair. For the price, food was extremely disappointing. In particular the entree calamari and green chicken curry. All grey meat and horribly inedible. On a positive note the Service could not be faulted. Other reviews comment about westernisation of flavours and I would tend to agree. There is nothing authentic about the food!

Very good Thai food, Crab Fried Rice and Tofu with Tamarind are my favourite. I will always pick this restaurant for Thai. Staff are lovely. Restaurant makes an effort with decor but it's more touristy than traditional. I think good for family's etc.

I have been to Chiang Mai twice now and this is one of my favourite restaurants on the Gold Coast. The decor is stunning (feels like I'm in Thailand), they are efficient and friendly (love the traditional Thai costumes they wear) and the food is lovely. Only thing is, I wish they had roti bread on the menu like most Thai restaurants do! Then it would be practically perfect! Coconut rice is delish and love the Pad Thai. Overall, had a great experience both times!

We were looking for a decent chinese restuarant and happened to stumble over this unique place, so decided to dump chinese for Thai. The decor is certainly something else, they have put a lot of effort into it, it looked great. Be mindful though when you enter to make a note if you eat indoors (outdoor is also available) to sit on the left hand side of the restaurant (as you face the building) the seats and tables are very differen, some are in fact shaped like elephants. The right hand side is very normal almost cheesy in comparison.
The food is really good, with a huge selection to try from although they don't appear to have chef specials but the service is very prompt and help so you shouldn't have too many hassles there. They are very helpful. We had a great night there.

A diamond in the rough. We were on holidays with a group of friends and had been suffering through the appalling service that is the norm for the Gold Coast. Chiang Mai was a wonderful change. The food was good, but not fantastic, flavours could have been cleaner and a bit more spice would have been good. Loved the vermicelli salad though.
Very much enjoyed the service from polite and knowledgeable waitstaff. We initially over-ordered and our waitress made some suggestions for changes and if we were still hungry we could order more. Thank you! The decor is a little tacky, a small sufferance for a great little restaurant.
