I'm from Sydney and been to Showchef Teppanyaki and Kobe Jones Teppanyaki. After I went to Benihana, I can say with hand on heart that Benihana is the best teppanyaki that I've been to in Australia.

Overall a wonderful experience. Great value set menus. Wonderful location with the Marriot being one of the classier Gold Coast hotels.

If you're new to japanese BBQ, you will enjoy the novelty. I sorted it as a surprise 30th b'day dinner for my wife and our close friends. Get there early for a pre-dinner drink at the bar. Food was on the pricey side and tasted ok, you can choose from a variety of banquet options. Entree was ordinary, but meat and seafood good. Chef was a real entertainer and added to the overall meal experience.

Service was very pushy, to the point of being rude and annoying. Be aware that the place is very busy and they do have 2 sittings in a night, so expect to be moved along by wait staff. Try it once and decide for yourself.

Looking for fun and entertainment then this is the restaurant. Food was nice but have had better at cheaper alternatives. The cook we had was fun, entertaining and attentive. My wife couldn't eat some of the food and he made sure she was cooked for separately. It's a little expensive but I think that its worth it every once in a while. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience Teppanyaki.

Best food here, fried rice is to die for, some of the best I have ever had,
they cook infront of you and do tricks so you get a dinner with a show,
a bit expensive but I think that its worth it. i would recommend it to anyone.

Food here was OK but nothing special. Benihana is quite a big restaurant spread over two noisy rooms with very little ambience. The standard menu included a watery onion soup and steamed rice but to change to miso soup and fried rice was a big jump in price. Benihana is apparently an American based worldwide chain so this probably explains some of the shortcomings.
