Food is always exceptional. Obviously made with great attention to the recipes, which are much more authentic than you get at a number of Indian places in Canberra.
Ambience is quaint, but I feel that the setting and the layout only add to the experience. The chairs and tables are old, and the decor is very 80s, but it only makes me feel more comfortable.
The owner always greets you with a smile, a laugh and a welcoming disposition. We always feel great going there, because we know that we will feel relaxed and enjoy our meal. We have definitely run up much larger bills at other Indian restaurants around town. Most of which have inferior food and service.

The food was ok nothing very special. The lighting is very dim and service isn't really good. You need a lot of patience and all the time in the world to be dining here.

Quite enjoyable but we stated that our son has a mild nut allergy and were assured that nothing we had ordered contained nuts. However, he mysteriously suffered a reaction that only occurs when he eats nuts. We had been before but we won't be back.

What could have been a memorable Indian dining experience was marred by several factors this restaurant needs to address.
First, it took some 20 minutes for our order to be taken, despite the restaurant being quarter full, at most. Second, the food was a long time in preparation, which had it arrived together would have been fine overall. Refer to next point.
Three, The two mains arrived without rice or breads as ordered, a critical issue when eating Indian food. These took almost ten minutes to join the rest of the food, while the mains turned lukewarm and we waited, and waited. Four, it was frustrating seeing the manager sitting and chatting with other diners, and other staff members socialising with non-eating patrons, while we waited, and our food got cool.
Overall a spoiled experience. The food was very good and as described, but we'd had the edge taken off by this poor service. In addition we felt the restaurant was under-lit making it difficult to read the menu, but that could be a personal bug-bear.
We had eaten at Jehangir many years ago, but based on this lacklustre experience would not hurry back, despite the great food and previous good dining.
