We dined here recently on a Friday evening after our friends made the booking three weeks ahead. We were expecting a great dining experience. To sum up the evening "good food, Very crowded venue, expensive prices, Very noisy venue, erratic service, uncomfortable chairs, all in all an over-rated eating experience". We would not choose to eat there again. Being packed in like sardines, sitting in uncomfortable chairs and having to shout to talk to our friends was not my idea of a pleasant dining experience.

There are many other, better eating establishments around Canberra where you can get great food for less than half the price and not have to wait three weeks! We'll be going there instead of Italian and Sons.

I have really enjoyed myself every time I have eaten here (3 times), the service was really good, we had a hand from the manager selecting a really beautiful wine. The food was timely and not lacking in taste! It's rustic, fresh and packing flavour. I would recommend this lovely little trattoria to anyone.

How did Canberra get so lucky? We came from Sydney to eat here. This is a marvellous, lively trattoria with exceptional food. No cliches here. They take many a traditional dish and inject it with such flare and serious skill. The wine list should also be commended. Please open an Italian and Sons in Sydney!

Great food, great flavours, really enjoyed the ragu. Service was a little erratic but understandable as it was full. Definitely will be back.

Its easy to see how Italian and Sons won their SMH hat, lovely food, great service, nice decor, its a great combination. Make sure you book or you probably won't get in. Its busy but for a reason, its good.

Went there recently on a Thursday evening for a birthday celebration. Found ourselves seated at the back under an air-conditioning vent. Service by different staff varied from attentive to long waits for service and the food. Entree of oysters was delicious even though the oysters were tiny given the price.

Main course of saltimbocca was dry, over-salted and inedible. Scrapping back the meat didn't help - it was horrible. It was obvious to waitress that the food wasn't eaten. Feedback for the chef was conveyed to the waitress, however, no apology or response ensued. The inedible course was included on the bill. Wouldn't bother going back. Greatly over-rated. There are other far better restaurants in Canberra.

We had a very pleasant experience here. The food was good the chefs event went to the trouble of making us a calamari pizza. A bit on the pricey side but worth it, good place for a special occasion dinner.

Came here for the early seating of 6pm and the restaurant was buzzing! We had no problems with service as all the waiters and the waitress was polite, friendly and water was always topped up. We tried the risotto balls to start (nice and crispy exterior with nice cheesiness in the centre) then we both couldn't resist the Sat night special of lamb cooked in red wine which seemed the dish of the night with many diners ordering this. We were tossing between the tiramisu and the special dessert of the night which were Italian ricotta doughnuts. We went for the doughnuts and while it was nice and fluffy on the inside, it would have been nice with some sauce or ice cream on the size as it seemed a bit dry. Overall, a great night out and next time my husband and I are in Canberra, we would like to come back here to try their pizza and pastas.

Very reasonable prices for the quality of the food. There is nothing particularly adventurous about the menu, and the menu list is very short, but they make the food very well. We had the buffalo ravioli and the pasta was made perfectly. We also had the suckling pork daily special and that was cooked well too. Simply made food cooked very well. Service was attentive friendly.
