We have been eating at Chairman and Yip for 15 years. In that time I have never had a disappointing meal or evening. Albert is an impeccable host. I love the Chilli Wontons, Shantung Lamb and the Beef and Scallop Hot Pot. We will keep returning for a great evening out!

7 of us went to the Chairman and Yip for my Mums birthday and were rather disappointed. The decor of the place was hardly formal. The paper table cloths put over the linen ones were tacky as were the tattered laminated dessert menus.
The wine list was put together in a binder you could buy from Woolworths and did not list any beer or other liquors. The Al a Carte menu was hard to read and we almost had to beg the waiter to get one per person. The food came extremely fast which was good and the prawns in chilli and plum sauce were delicious as were the calamari but there simply wasn't enough food. Their portion size was a little bit ridiculous for how much each main meal cost.
When you're paying $40 upwards per head (excluding beverages) you would hope for a less tacky more formal atmosphere, bigger portion sizes (or lower prices) and menus which didn't look like one of the staff printed them off at home. We weren't fans and won't be returning.

My third visit over 3 years this week. Top shelf still this place, food was very very good we had the 2 person banquet... yum, would have licked the plates clean if I could again, ambience and service first class, will go back as always my best recommendation.

My partner took me to dinner here on Saturday night and it was Icredible! The service was divine, attentive, yet also gave us our privacy to enjoy each other's company. They also served us all of the entree dishes which I really liked as it meant we didn't have empty serving plates cluttering the table.
The food was beautiful. Modern and delicious. We deliberated over which "set" menu option to go with as there were items on each that we wanted to try but then one of the waitresses told us that we could change items on any of these menus so that we ended up with Exactly the dinner we were hoping for!
I didn't get a look at the bill, but there were some very reasonably priced options on the menu and winelist so I would say that this would suit most budgets.
All in all, I would like to thank the team at Chairman & Yip for a really lovely night. We will definitely go back there.

I feel weird about giving perfect scores across the board, so I didn't, but not for any reason whatsoever. The food here was a divine experience, the service was impeccable, the ambience is like fine dining, with a casual twist, and the value cannot be faulted, especially for the degustation menu. Will definitely be back!

They've definitely customised their 'chinese food' into a more popular 'australianised chinese food.' Not that I have a problem with that.
I enjoyed their chicken with cashews. But the combination noodle soup was disappointing! the soup base tasted like it was just water with a teaspoon of soya sauce added to give it a bit of colour.

Just rating the food: Amazing Chinese! This is not Modern Australian, but Modern Chinese. No similar restaurant exists in Sydney. Been here several times over the last couple of years and it hasn't disappointed. Unusual flavours that you don't expect with Chinese cooking. I am Chinese and normally enjoy traditional flavours. This place succeeds in blending Eastern and Western influences that Chinese will like and not dumbing down Chinese food for Western diners. Worth a try.

A group of us go here from time to time. Would go more regularly but it is of course a bit pricey. We love it. Over time it has proved constistently good. Service is great, food is delicious etc. Pretty much ticks every box and I would highly recommend it. Suggest in particular the Crispy Shantung Lamb.
ps the desserts are a bit marginal, choose careully!

This was a birthday meal on the way to the snow and we had no idea where to go in Canberra. We made a great choice and had a wonderful meal here. The kids loved the duck pancakes and the wontons and we loved the scallops and the salmon. Even the cheese plate was excellent. We had some great wine too (one bottled and two glasses). It wasn't cheap (about $250 for two adults and two kids) and quite small portions but it was faultless we will definitely go back.

On arrival directed to a table which had odd chairs set. The male waiter only put napkins on the male diners laps. The food was mediocre, extremely small portions, the beef was still mooing, the lamb had so much chilli in it, it burned my mouth for over 1/2 hour.
The food was rushed out, the prices were over the top. Anyone with any ability in the kitchen could have done the same menu for less than a 10th of the cost. They charge $8 for corkage even though they don't have to open anything as the bottles are now screw topped. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you are a show pony and you want to waste your money.
