My mate and I thought we'd hang out here since we were both starving and he likes Viet food (I'm sorta sitting on the fence, as my heritage is Viet anyway hahaha).
He said his Pho was delicious, but my broken rice combination dish was so small portion-wise compared to his. Service wasn't all that flash either. For Vietnamese food, I'd say the prices are pretty good, but quality isn't too great.
Might go back again in a few days as I think I'll try the Pho!

Just opened last Sunday at Garema Place Canberra City. Located at the other end of the Garema Arcade from Gus's Cafe facing the large screen and fountain. Like its name, the signature dish is Pho. The noodle staple of Vietnam. Small menu of delicious entrees and a range of noodle dishes. However, you cannot go past the soupy noodles. The soup base is as I tasted it in Vietnam and the noodles so soft and tender. I really evokes memories of the country.
There are two soup base used, beef and pork. Both are hearty and the servings generous. Add the crunch of the fresh bean sprouts and the thinly sliced beef you have the making of a wonderful meal in a bowl of contrasting texture and taste.
I've been back twice since it opened and tried the pho and hutieu (pronounced her tieu). The beef pho is my favorite but the hutieu was also very good. The later is lighter soup and has a hint of chicken. For someone who prefers a less complex and depth of flavor this would be the one to go for. For all the noodle dishes you can get a choice of noodles but traditionally its the thinly sliced rice noodles which goes best
My favorite entree is the BBQ pork patties which they call nem noung. The flavor can only be described as awesome. The taste is not spicy and there is a sweet aftertaste but its the texture and feel in the mouth that makes this a great morsel to bite into. Most patties just fall apart but this one holds together and has good body.
I'll be returning to try some more of the meals on offer. Hard to believe there is a real noodle shop in town! and such value for money
Opening hour unstated but from lunch to supper at 10pm, Monday to Sunday. Average entree cost $4.50 and bowl of noodle $12. Serving size generous.

Au Lac is a great restaurant with fast, cheap and tasty food. I think for the quality of the food it is priced well (even though it is a little more expensive than other vegetarian venues in Canberra). No complaints.

Great noodle dishes. Reckon Tudo has the best Pho and Bun Bo Hue in tow. Even friends from Sydney and Melbourne said so. The soup in Tudo are cleaner in taste and sweeter to some local joints in Sydney/Melbourne. The new owners are young, energetic and very accommodating to the needs of the customers. Lots of Vietnamese frequent the restaurant. Highly recommended.

Love this place. My quick fix when I'm really hungry and just want something quick and tasty. I love their rice rib combo. And on a cold night a bowl of their combination pho just about do it for me. The best Vietnamese restaurant in town!

Trading on past glories I think. Stale rice paper rolls, the rice paper all glutinous and either badly soaked or old. A vegetable dish which was mostly the heart of a white cabbage, with huge chunks of vegetables so impossible to get a combination of vegetables at once. I have a young family and I dont go out much and this was terribly disappointing. I pointed out that my disk of stir fried vegetables was mostly the inedible part of a cabbage and the maitre d just shrugged. Nothing would induce me to go again.

I found this place so enjoyable. I had vermicelli with pork chop. Haven't stopped thinking about it since. The meal was so fresh and the service was awesome. This little place has an awesome vibe. The owner knew many customers by name. Going back again tomorrow!

I had a really delicious meal here last week with my mum. Because it was just the two of us we had lots of leftovers, the mains are very generous! We also had entrees, delicious rice paper rolls with beautiful fresh mint inside, which went beautifully with the hoisin sauce, and some great crispy noodle fritters.
The restaurant was full but we were seated without a reservation within about 5 minutes on a Friday night and the staff were helpful, prompt and friendly throughout the evening. The atmosphere was a little bit noisy but in a general, happy, hummy sort of way, without awful noisy outbursts, so I (with a not so good ear) still had no trouble hearing what my mum was saying. Considering the number of people in there, I think the acoustics must be pretty good.
I will definitely eat at My's again and I might even pop in for some take-away rice paper rolls for lunch one day! Yum!

Awful food small portions and minuscule entree made me want to leave this shop as soon as I could not to say that it is quite expensive considering the size of the meals. The broth from their Bun bo hue was spicy with a bland taste and
We had four people eating there and we all thought the food was bad.
It is just day and night compared with Phu Quoc in Dickson so I don't understand why someone from Dickson which is the food part of town has to drive all the way to gungahlin to eat in this shop.

I really actually liked the ambience of this place and service was to be expected, nothing to rave about but didn't have any problems with it.
Having recently moved from Sydney and expecting some satay beef pho we were sadly disappointed here but nevertheless stayed to try something else.
The spicy soup was super spicy, not complaining here, but flavours were lost a bit on it. However, the duck in the duck soup was definitely far past its used-by date and my partner was sick afterwards. By both the smell and taste it was not ok to eat and so I've had to rate the food quite low. I'd like to think that this is not the usual but I wouldn't return here before trying all the other Vietnamese places in Canberra first.

We'll be making the trip from Dickson more often. Amazing pho broth and the "bacon and eggs" (pork chop and rice) was stellar. That chilli sauce.

I have been taking my family and friends to this Restaurant for years now. Even my 6 year old daughter loves their cuisine. The PHO rare beef noodle soup is perfect and refreshigly light, the Shan Tung Chicken is also marvellous, a more chinese dish being dry chilli beef will not disappoint fussy eaters. Recently this restaurant was graded in the Canberra Times too harshly. This restaurant is a winner, it's value for money, great serving sizes alwyas consistent with the quality and has a relaxed atmosphere.

Although we had booked there was no table reserved. A request for pepsi max or coke zero flustered the waitress as they had neither. A request for any type of diet softdrink was difficult. Finally the waitress returned with diet coke.
The entree was their combined. The spring rolls were good, the pork balls were good but ordinary. The prawn toast had no evidence of prawns and were more like an english highly fried slice.
The first of our mains arrived without the rice. Then another dish. Then it was decided these were not our dishes so they were given to another table. Then the first of our real dishes arrived with steamed rice instead of the fried rice we ordered. We inspected the steamed rice and there were brown bits in it either burnt crust or something dripped in it.
This rice eventually disappeared to be replaced by our second dish and our fried rice. Both the dishes we chose were as advertised and very nice. However, the fried rice was about the quality and taste you get frozen in the supermarket. I would say it was frozen and reheated.
Finally the dessert, We chose the profiteroles. The waitress consulted the chef and told us they were not available, they didn't have any. We chose a banana split and the fried ice cream. The banana split had a single small scoop of icecream, a bruised banana and lots of caramel topping. The fried ice cream was closer to the mark with a flaming whisky coating leaving a strong aftertaste.
So overall the good points were vastly over shadowed by the farcical service and the lack of supplies on hand.

The prawns sour soup is awesome but a bit heavy on the Msg. Service and atmosphere are as to be expected from a down-to-earth Vietnamese. This is all about the food, not the surroundings.

Au Lac is a wonderful restaurant - great value, awesome food and speedy service. The menu features a wide range of vegan Vietnamese foods, including soups, noodles, curries and fried dishes. Some feature mock meat, but there are quite a few vegetable or tofu dishes to choose from if that's not your cup of tea. The laksa, fish with ginger and (entree-size) wonton soup are all excellent - although the full-size wonton noodle soup is a bit bland. The banquets aren't bad for groups either.

Moved from Sydney to Canberra 6 months ago... at last, a decent vietnamese restaurant. Their Pho's authentic. This is from someone who used to visit a vietnamese restaurant at least once a week in Sydney. It's driven away the urge to drive 3 hrs to Sydney for a good bowl of pho... I'm not complaining
Tried chilli mussel and spring rolls but going back soon with a large group to sample a larger selection from the menu. On a Saturday afternoon, there was a constant stream of asians entering the premises... you know that's gotta be a good sign.
The foods great, price is right...I don't really care about the kitschy decor. So long as they don't increase the price of dishes to pay for an expensive fitout. It adds to the overall atmosphere... Even better, 25% off from Entertainment Book (up to $20 off).

Great food but Au Lac has put its prices up 3 times in a year so the prices are now expensive for vegetarian food.
They used to offer 10% discount on takeaways over $30 then it went up to over $40 and now no discount. I was not impressed when I went in to pick up my order tonight to find out all prices had gone up again and no discount and they didn't offer to give me a discount but they gave me a bag a chips!
They just did a new refit of the shop so I guess they need to charge more.
So after 10 years of eating here at least once a month I will be taking all my business 30m up the road to somewhere else. Such a shame cause the food is good and I will probably spend the next week telling all my friends to go to there.
