Been looking forward to go to this restaurant for some time. Unfortunately, did not meet up to expectations and reviews we had been giving. Food was average, service Ok, Ambience must have had the night off. Head waiter would be better off as a undertaker. Check your bill, ours had an extra $27 tip added to credit card. Good job I checked my statement this month. Definitely not worth a 2 hat rating. Plenty of better establishment to frequent.

Not bad but didn't blow me away. Meals were tasty, pricing wasn't bad and service was excellent. Not sure whether worth its two hat rating but generally a pleasant evening.

Like many other reviewers on here, this place, once a bastian for fine food in Brisbane, has now become more hit and miss. I feel Restaurant II now has the established chefs and 2small Rooms is more a proving ground for new chefs. I went with my partner over a year ago now as she was new to Brisbane and thought I would introduce her to what was once a mainstay of Brisbane food.
The experience was average at best with bland food, and average service. I was disappointed (based on decades of good food there), but she seemed to accept it as being ok. Last weekend we went back as its local and thought we would give it another go. Wow, what a year makes. Or maybe we got the "good" chef on the night. The food was fantastic. I had the pork belly special for entree and my partner the mushroom tart. Both were fantastic.
The mains were just as good, with the duck immaculately cooked and presented. Of note was the inconsistency of service. They were a bit over the place, didn't mention the specials until it was time to order, but once we cornered their wine gourmond, he was fantastic. Understood what we were ordering and recommended a reasonably priced Beaujolais to delightfully accompany our meal. But again the general service staff are lacking.
Would I return. Probably, but I might just give it another year before heading back there.

We have now been to this resturant twice. Since the experience was good the first time we took a guest back with us over the weekend! what a mistake.
The evening started off well, with the entree arriving quickly but the problems started when the waiter who took the order by memory and forgot the side orders for the main meals, which really needed greens since it was mainly meat with a few token veg and garnish. Half way through the main we enquired where the sides were and the via one of the waitresses who never returned.
Finally we flagged down who we think was the owner to enquire again about the sides and to cancel them since we had now finished the meal only to discover they were never ordered! No apology given and the excuse that we had never ordered the beans and garlic and potatoes.
We then ordered dessert and coffees and when it came to the bill we had been charged full tote odds, no complimentary coffees nothing even though we had mentioned that we were more than disappointed at the service.
What was even more disappointing was the arrogance of the owner who really could have cared less about the balance of the meal or three people leaving the restaurant feeling as very disappointed that a great night spoiled by a very poor attitude. Good luck if you are dining at this restaurant!

This has always been one of the best restaurants in Brisbane but it was bit off its game the night we went. They serve a faux caviar called 'Avruga' which has really no similarity to the real thing and shouldn't be served in any restaurant. The duck in orange sauce lacked any sauce and was served with bitter vegetables which spoiled the flavour. y kids had bugs and pasta which I thought very bland but they liked it.
The pork belly entree was rich and flavorsome, but the trout a bit watery, while the oysters were superb. Most of the desserts were pretty good except for the chocolate fondant which was too floury. We bought a bottle of Dessert Heart chardonnay which was excellent, and the service was efficient and friendly.

Some minute steak with a fancy drizzle of mayonnaise and sauce is still minute steak. The waiter also does not make minute steak better. We've always been impressed with their sister restaurants, however, this was just bland and unremarkable.

Who needs a special occasion? A sat night dinner after a few hectic weeks of travelling was just what the wife ordered. We had passed the restaurant a few times and were intrigued. Luckily, it did not disappoint.
We ordered the set-menu (great idea - would like to see more of this) which was a clam chowder for starters, a beef bourguignon main and a baked raspberry tart with ice-cream for sweeties. An appetiser of pea & ham soup in a demi-tasse was sublime, with the addition of fresh peas adding a lovely refined lift to a usually robust soup. The main was a surprise, with the beef in large chunks, instead of the typical diced variety. Great take on the dish and it was meltingly tender and sticky. Superb.
Although full to the brim by this time we attacked the dessert in true Anzac spirit. Another star. Great pastry with a tasy, tangy filling of raspberries. I also ordered the wine matches which "herself" greatly assisted me in consuming. The red was a luscious mouverde and the sticky was a corker from Sicily. Highly recommended.

My husband and I have dined at this place for many years and have enjoyed its food, atmosphere and services greatly until a recent visit. We had dinner there in mid February 08 and the food and service standard was below average. My scallops weren't fresh and came out cold. The duck came out with 3 pieces with a bit of spinach on the bottom and was also cold. My husband's fillet of beef was tasteless and again cold. The service staff was also inconsistent when they offered the special of the day. I'm pretty sure the chef has changed recently cause the quality just isn't there anymore.

Unusual litttle restaurant, worth the visit, great for that intimate meal. The steaks we had were perfect. I'd certainly go back again.

After moving to Brisbane we decided to treat ourselves to one of our local restaurants, not knowing anything about Brisbane restaurants all I can say is, this is a place I will definitely be going back to.
We had the degustation menu with accompanying wines, it was a little bit expensive but well worth the experience after less than average meal at Lure, this restaurant was a civilised and relaxing experience. The only downside was the constant traffic rumbling past, that said not enough to make me forget this wonderful meal.
