I was starving after paying over 200 for three meals. I thought emu was meant to be tender. It was as tough as Gandis sandles. However, it was an enjoyable experience.

Since my damning comments in 2007, this has changed management and ownership. The food is superb, and now the service matches the quality of the food. Subtle and wonderful cuisine, excellent albeit relatively small wine lists, and the staff know their food and wine.

Boasting 'advanced Australian fare', Tukka in West End seemed like a good place to bring visitors from overseas who had just arrived in Brisbane.
The menu lists the type of Australian items that you would expect to see in some sort of Lonely Planet guide of 'things to try while Down Under', possum, kangaroo, emu, crocodile, koala. Ok, koala is a lie - that would just be wrong.
We ordered the native platter, which was an interesting novelty, but to be honest, I was glad of the damper bread just for something to fill my stomach a little.
The mains were well presented and tasted good (when they finally arrived), if a bit small. The range of drinks had been reduced since the first time I went over a year previously.
So despite fine flavours and well-cooked meals, it didn't really seem worth it, and the prices certainly weren't warranted. Bit of a shame.

Absolutely appalling! My partner and I are huge food lovers, and have eaten All over the world (we've lived in 5 different countries and multiple cities between us over the last 5 years!) and this was by far The most disappointing. Servings are ridiculously small, and over priced, and the flavours of each dish do not compliment each other whatsoever. A disgraceful attempt of showcasing of Aussie flavours. So disappointing.

I visited this restaurant with friends for a birthday. We were promptly seated at a lovely table and had a very nice waitress who explained the menu in a very knowledgeable manner. The food when it was finally brought out to us was beautiful, however, it was over an hour before our starters arrived and another hour before our mains were delivered.
On top of that one of my friends tried to order the only vegan main offered on the menu only to find that they were out of it for the night, and ended up choosing 3 uninspiring sides. I'd go back, but not with high expectations of service.

I'd previously been to Ednas Table in Sydney (unfortunately, no longer in business), so had a certain expectation of Tukkas. They don't do childrens menus, and do not offer smaller portions, not really feasible considering the size of portions offered: appetiser (free) was a piece of salmon no larger than my thumbnail. The discovery platter was interesting and well explained, but not worth $40.
Both Kangaroo and Emu were nicely presented, but half raw. Possum was on the menu, but not available. Neither was the Blue tongue beer nor sparkling mineral water. Apparently the supplier had let them down. A business minded restauranteur would normally have gone to the bottle shop about 20 m down the road. $240 later, we had had a good laugh about our experience. I certainly will never visit the place again, nor would I recommend it further.

Hate to admit it, but I feel ripped off. Ordered drinks 3 times, and each and every time, the beer was delivered was not the one ordered, or the wine was 'not available at the time'. Staff were pretentious, trying to convince me of how the meal was, and considering we were seated at 715, and didn't get mains until we were standing to leave at 10:35.
After several requests for how long our meal would be we were assured at 9 pm that they were next in line, etc etc, the excuses got more and more lame as the evening progressed. As a token, 2 of the party of 6 were given a glass of wine, (which was stale, corked, and resembled a vinegarette, more than a wine). The remainder of us were offered 4 berries, and 4 small slices of salami to tide us over for the further 1 hour 40 minutes wait.
All in all, we won't be back, almost 400 to slightly feed 6 people, poor service, tactless staff, and to top it all off, not a hint of an apology for the lengthy delay.
I would hate to see how the staff and kitchen handle a full restaurant, as there was only roughly 30-40 people dining the night we went. Never again

I had dinner with two friends and we found the food exquisite. The discovery platter was the highlight, followed closely by the desserts. True the servings were not generous but we were satisfied. And the quality and the unique flavours are something not to be missed.

Food was delicious &andoriginal. I loved experiencing the new flavours even if the portions were small. Since going there I wish I could catch and eat my local possums, was so tasty there. Instead I make do with using lemon myrtle and wattleseed to add native flavour to dishes. Well done Tukka for using native Aussie ingredients. Service was good both times I have been.
We were given a copy of the menu and glossary of the native foods, to take home and remember our experience by. Expensive but worth it for a special experience. Great for international guests. Nice Aboriginal artwork and displays of native cuisine complemented the food. Can buy native spices, jams, etc to take home.

Totally agree with two of the other reviewers! Tukka is well and truly the most disappointing dining experience I have ever been unlucky enough to endure. Arrived at 7:30 and didn't have our mains untill 9:30. Due to the inflated opinion the restaurant must have for the quality and rareness of their cuisine, the minimalistic entree's hardly satisfied us for two hours while we waited for our meals. Honestly 50 dollars for a platter with a dozen bits of salami and a lump of damper is hardly good value.
The service whilst good was completely pretentious and kind of patronising we were all totally uncomfortable. The mains were small and cold. After ordering a glass of wine initially and being told they didn't have it in stock we ordered a different glass and told that wasn't in stock.
I'm sorry but I have better things to do than play "Order the bottle of wine we do have in stock" game. No apologies were made for the long wait or the lack of wine advertised on the menu. If a restaraunt places those prices on their meals, I expect a complete dining experience. What an overrated, overpriced waste of time Tukka is.
