Went there last night. My Seafood Basket was disappointing being a few chips, garden salad and a couple of seafood bits on a plate for $26! The other meals seemed fine. Main benefit here is for families with kids as there is an entertainment room and playground. Otherwise not great.

I have been to the Gap Tavern on many occassions for dinner over the last year or two. Contrary to earlier reviews, the restaurant is almost always packed, and usually requires booking on any night of the week - which indicates something. The food is simple but generally good without being spectacular, and it is basically a pub - i.e. no table service. Regular menu is not cheap for what you get, but specials often provide good value. Great location and views - so nice to go to an Australian restaurant that doesn't front a suburban carpark!

I've been here about 4 times in as many years, the last couple of times have been within the past month. On both recent occasions I ordered the wagyu steak and I was pretty impressed both times with the steak. With my first steak order I asked for steamed vegetables which I have to say, were a complete let down. I was expecting market fresh crunch but think they were either frozen or cooked more than once, you'd would think in a country like Australia veg would always be fresh in a restaurant.

On the second steak occasion I decided to have dessert and ordered pavlova. The meringue itself looked and tasted like a shop bought pavlova nest and was served with tinned fruit cocktail, yes tinned, and cream squirted out of a can. Pretty poor really. Is fresh fruit and real cream no longer wanted? but, the steak was really nice!

Lovely view however will not go back. Took 45 minutes for lunch to arrive for the order to be wrong. When I complained the manageress screamed at her staff like a fishwife which really added to the ambience. Food very average and prices not that cheap. No doubt an unhappy customer.

Not sure how long it has been open, however, there were more staff there than customers at midday on a sunday. The staff seemed to be preoccupied on catching up with each other of their saturday nights activities. I was told they had run out of the beef burgers, bear in mind I was the second/third person to order that day. My partner had the vege lasagne with special gap sauce and found it to be a cheese overload, the chef did not have to smother the cheese sauce all over like he/she did.

The building and the view are very impressive. However, while the prices for the limited range of meals reflects those charged by an up-market restaurant, there is no table service in this cafe-styled restaurant and patrons are required to order meals and drinks from the bar. In addition, young adults are unable to dine there if they are under 18 and without parental supervision. If you want to avoid disappointment, avoid The Gap Tavern
