I am a regular here because it's close. But lately getting quite expensive. Traffic noise is a bit over the top (just like Bangkok only smells better). Staff are always very friendly and the food is authentic. Just a pity they are so overpriced now.

Purple neons - when you drive past the Gabba your attention is always drawn to the lights at the Thai Rose Cafe. Initially I thought it would be *perhaps* a little fancy (and it wasn't until my girlfriend pointed out how tacky the lights were) and I realised that this place was going to be interesting for all the wrong reasons.
Understandably, as it was close to 9:00pm the staff probably wanted to close and although they were trying to hide from us for most of the night, when we did see them they were polite and greeted us with friendly smiles.
The food was very, very normal. Nothing out of the extraordinary - and this was reminiscent of the Thai restaurant in Graceville next to the train station (Lahn Thai). We had the curry which was very watered down and overly sweet. The pad Thai didn't have any tamarind paste so as to up the antes a bit.
The total cost was around $20 per person - quite expensive considering we did not have any drinks (just the plastic tasting tap water with floaties - compliments of the chef). I was quite disappointed as I had seen this place many times and told myself I would go and try the food once.
The other thing was the location on the corner of Ipswich Road and Stanley Street inbound gets a LOT of traffic so there is a lot of exhaust fume deposit around the place. Make sure you get a seat you will find comfortable. Such a shame for a great location - I feel more could be done with it.
