As a regular cruiser I've come to know the service in Australia is pretty lacking. That all changed the night we went to Taigum Gardens Chinese restaurant. The staff were friendly and provided fast service, the food was delicious, served piping (and in the case of Mongolian Lamb, sizzling) hot to our tables and there was just enough pomp and ceremony in each course to make the night special without dragging or becoming corny. This will now be our go-to date night, and we look forward to many family dinners with the in-laws as well.

7 of us plus bub in pram dined at Taigum Gardens last night. We were attended to promptly, staff were ready to take food and drink orders as soon as we were.

Prices a little high, about $25.00 per dish, but portions generous. We ordered 6 main meals, plus rice, which was enough for the 7 of us. The Salt and Pepper Pork Spare Ribs are certainly a winner.

This is a very nice restaurant, not the sort of place to turn up in a singlet and stubbies. After all, eating is off Royal Albert Crockery.

I've read the reviews for this restaurant and I disagree with the negativity in most of these comments! I've been dining at this restaurant for 17 years and I too know what Chinese food is. I have never been spoken sarcastically to by any of the staff!The service has been poor throughout the year, however, we always got what we wanted and that was delicious food. Yes, the food is expensive there, but it is filling. If you pay to get full, go here. I dined at Taigum on a busy and non-busy day and I’ve noticed that food is not always perfect on the busy day. The other best thing at this restaurant is that all females get roses. If you have patience, I recommend this restaurant to you.

If you like to be spoken to sarcastically by wait staff then go here. You want to pay Big $$ for Bland food then go here. If you want to receive food that is not hot when first placed on your table by all means, dine here! They say that they give you a rose on arrival to every lady that comes but thats a lie. The chairs are uncomfortable and after making the effort to make a booking they scramble around looking for a table and realise that they have to clean one before they can seat you and what's more, there are only a hand full of customers occupying 2 or 3 tables.

Therefore, it wasn't that busy and you have to wait such a long time to get service! it was the most expensive Chinese tea I ever paid for! $3 per person in a tiny jug! They didn't have some items on the menu and the food was sweet after requesting that they make it traditionally! We ordered bean curd with vegetables, squid with chilli sauce, and salt and pepper prawns. Neither of these dishes arrived hot. The Squid was over cooked and tough and the vegetables was less salt and did not have taste all together!

We regret going there and spending $104 for 4 people for such poor and few dishes! Shall not go here again. If you want to try this place out anyway, consider yourself warned! If you enjoy sweet and non traditional Chinese food then go here. I speak poorly of this place because I know Chinese food and I know customer service. And as far as I am concerned neither was up to standard!

Great prices considering the high quality of food. We had enough to feed 3 people very well with a variety of dishes for around $30-35 per person (not including drinks).

Ambience was an issue but it's not the restaurant's fault there were shrieking kids that night (and I mean shrieking. People, please consider getting a babysitter). Very friendly staff, however, it did take us a long while to get our order taken, and longer still to be served our food, on a very busy Saturday night. For this reason I suggest you do not book later than 7 pm. Try the shark fin soup!
