Clearly a beautiful and memorable location. Building well maintained. Food prior to 2011 was absolutely magnificent and I would have rated 9's on every aspect. I took 2 clients there for a Sunday lunch in January 2012. I didn't appreciate being greeted as "mate" (I am female and yes, I was a regular at Summit Restaurant.

I was embarrassed to have been recognised and referred to as a regular). It's not like I ask them for a VIP discount! On this day, the service was bad. The current menu is the worst I have seen it in 10 years. There must be a new licensee. I won't take client's there again.

Opted for the romantic dinner package for 2 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Our table next to the window was set up with silver heart-shaped confetti strewn on it, with a complimentary box of 4 chocolate truffles. The sweeping panoramic view of the city lights of Brisbane added to our dining experience.

For starters we had champagne cocktail, followed by the chef's appetizer and entree before the main meal (crisp skin Atlantic salmon), followed by a yummy assortment of desserts, and cappuccino. The meal portions were smallish but well-presented and delicious.

Despite it being mid-week, the restaurant seemed busy enough and grew to be somewhat noisy as the evening progressed. The staff were friendly and pleasant, although the service could have been a bit quicker.

Overall, it was a most memorable night out.

My husband and I celebrated both our birthdays with a breakfast at the Summit in late 2009. We rang about 5 days out and they happily took our booking. It was the height of summer heat that week, and we were looking forward to a leisurely morning to celebrate in aircon, since we don't have aircon at home. To our horror when we arrived the waitress informed us we had to sit outside in the sun, and could not seat us in the restaurant.

We asked her to check again and she said yes we had a booking but there was definitely no table for us as a group had arrived. So we sat outside dripping with sweat (it was one of the hottest days of the year, Brisbane temp reached 35 degrees by mid morning). We sat looking back in the windows at families enjoying the cool, and at lovely 2 tables for 2 inside that remained empty all morning!

The food was ok, but the misleading signs on the buffet were annoying, such as the table sign saying "pancakes with fresh berry compote" (one of my fav things!), but when I asked where I would find the compote the waitress said they didn't have any this week (...so why not change the little sign instead of causing people disappointment?).

An apparently senior waiter took our money when left, and when we mentioned we were very disappointed at sitting outside when we had booked in the restaurant he said that all bookings were for inside and the girl had got it completely wrong, but didn't really seem to care. I have now given up on this place. Several times before we had taken overseas guests up in the evening and been disappointed by the level of service. It's not getting any better. The view is great, I will give it that.

I took my wife for a romantic dinner here on the weekend. When you pay $40 for a main you expect a it to be "a cut above" and expect the chefs to have a high level of precision. Unfortunately not so here.

We had the mixed entree for starters, the beef and bug and the duck confit. In all dishes the seasoning was all wrong with the mash that came with the duck so salty it was inedible and the scallops not seasoned at all, we only got two between us and it's a bit late to put the table salt on your one scallop when it's in your mouth, you should be able to to trust the chef for this, not so.

The "truffle" in the jus for the beef must have just been waved in the general direction of the pot it was made in because it was not tasted in the sauce. Maybe it's just me but if you call the sauce "truffle jus" it should taste like truffle or maybe for Summit it's like the chocolates, just an affection.

The view is wonderful and the service personable but it's not enough to redeem the kitchen's poor effort. All in all a disappointing experience from a restaurant rated so highly here.

Me n my other half chanced upon this nice restaurant after visiting mt cootah. We're visitors from sydneyu see. Well we were drawn by the promise of a good view whilst lunching. The lunch menu looked a little suspect on quality So I decided to pick from the ala carte menu.

I had a beef fillet with moreton bay bug which was excellent. Beef was expertly cooked and the sauce was just absolutely delicious. My other half had sirloin steak from the lunch menu but that was kinda dry.

The maitre d' or senior waiter was really warm and friendly, frequently filling our glasses of water and having some light banter with us. Would definitely visit this place when we visit Brisbane. Oh and we visited in the afternnon so there was not much of a crowd. Many only 5 or 6 other tables?

We went here after many years of wanting to go. Although we weren't greeted with great enthusiasm by the apparent senior staff our waiter to be for the night seemed pleased to serve us. However, in a restaurant such as this I found him perhaps a little too "casual".

We had an entree of fresh oysters which at the time were lovely but re-appeared at 3 am. We rang the following day as a courtesy call regarding the icky oyster only to be told that the senior staff would call us back. He never did. I had a main of duckling leg that was simply divine, I don't think I've ever savoured a meal quite like this one. My partner had a fillet of steak which he enjoyed immensely.
The desserts were nothing special but still a nice treat.

Over all I was happy (until 3 am found me bringing my meal back up). I wouldn't rave about the service or ambience but it was a nice night out. Would I go again? Probably, I just wouldn't get oysters next time.

I've been visiting this restaurant for decades and always taken visitors there, doesn't everybody do that? Ambiance rates 12 out of 10 day or night.
It offers regularly changing menus from contemporary Queensland style cuisine with Mediterranean and Asian influences that suit the locals and most visitors. If you're travelling a long way, it's best to phone first to check what's available on the menu if you're after something special.

I had high tea there recently with relatives from London and Denmark, they enjoyed it and it was a cheap day out in a lovely environment. Mt.Cootha was once called “one tree hill”. There are no gum trees that are 2-3 metres diameter on the drive up there, the early settlers cleared all of them for building and firewood. I believe the “one tree” is the shady fig behind the restaurant.

There is no question that the Summit's main drawcard is the summit, and though the restaurant has copped a bit of a battering on its other merits, that is not to say that a good, or even great, meal can't be had here.

Avoiding the crowds that are no doubt drawn to the semi-romantic view of Brisbane's commercial skyline at night, and thus coming in for a late lunch mid-week, my peerless girlfriend and I had an intimate lunch, thanks in part to good food, a pleasant vista and decent service from the sole waitress on the floor.

The food was fairly memorable, of particular note was the freshness of the seafood in the prawn entree, crisp skin salmon and the Moreton Bay bug served with the Hereford beef. Having sampled bugs wherever available at other venues, and been roundly disappointed, the succulent and fresh bug served here was a tantalising surprise.

Though the prawn entree was a tad bland, green papaya is to my mind overused in pseudo-Asian dishes and in this case wasn't infused with much flavour, especially as the sauce was served seperately, the prawns were fresh, and the sauce was reasonably flavoursome. The mains were dependable, my partner's salmon main was a nicely balanced dish and though the Hereford beef was a little on the thin side it was cooked to my liking, and with the bug is a good riff on the surf 'n turf concept.

We were just about done after two courses and bread, but chose the dessert platter for a three course experience, though none of the desserts are mind-blowing, the Italian pastry is rather nice. Our waitress was professional, and always on hand without intruding upon our personal space, a virtue which we always appreciate.

The value of the meal was enhanced by the use of a voucher, though without the discount the meal may have been a tad overpriced. Dining here at quiet times may not be possible for all, but it might be the best way to get the most out of the Summit.

Very expensive food and awful service. We had to complain as the children's menu was basically a big portion of chips. Very disappointing experience.
