Welcome to Southern Spice - An Indian Restaurant specialising in Fine Indian Cuisine.
Southern Spice is a popular suburban Indian restaurant in Brisbane's south, that has had the locals coming back for years. We are best known for the quality of food we offer - not surprising as both our chefs Gopinath and Thirumugham have 5 star Indian hotel experience. Our specialty is the Masala Dosai - potato stuffed crepe that is best had dining in - as well as the Chicken Chettinad (pepper spiced gravy). For mild options we have the Prawn Moilee, the Malabar Fish Curry or the ever reliable Butter Chicken.
Southern Spice also has an extensive beverage and wine list, as well as the option to BYO bottled wine. Be sure to try the Mango Lassi as well. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, we also offer delivery for orders over $40 ($5 delivery fee to surrounding areas). Come in and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about, we're sure you'll love it.

Don't even bother going there. A bunch of us went to the restaurant and we were quite appalled by the level of service we got from them. They took ages to come out and take our order (even after going up to one of the waiters and asking him to take our order).
The guy finally comes after 15 minutes of our request and takes our order. We then had to wait for nearly 30 minutes for our food to arrive. (In the mean time, a group of family members who arrived at the restaurant after we did were being served quite efficiently and their food had already started to arrive). The guy finally brings out our food, puts it one corner of the table and asks us to sort the items ourselves (and he didn't even try to be polite).
After finishing our starters we were waiting for ages for the mains to come through and it was really annoying. One of my friends took his plate which went completely dry and went and complained about the lack of service to the senior staff. The senior staff says "Yeah mate, that's how things work here. You can't expect everything just as you ordered mate". We paid our bill (even though we didn't have our mains) and just barged out of the restaurant.

The food was okay, I liked the masala dosai, but the curries don't have a proper Indian authentic taste. The surroundings need to be changed, and have a more unique style. Service was very slow, and need to be quicker. 35 minutes is too much to handle. The senior staff needs to learn how to handle his customers in a proper way, or else he is going to lose his restaurant's reputation.

Went there with a big group for my birthday and was awesome. They were quite busy, but the food came out fast enough. Anyway, in the company of my friends I didn't notice much around me. Couple of the curries were hot but they got one with coconut gravy that is really mild and tasty (can't remember the name). Had my first dosa experience as well, good for an entree but I prefer my curries though. Can't comment on wine list cause I brought my own.

I went here on staurday night after reading the reviews of this place. I honestly do not know what all the fuss is about. I have been to many indian restaurants and this rates as my least favourite. If this is supposed to be authentic indian than I don't think people have actually tried real indian, the curries were so watery and tasteless. I usually lick the bowl clean but I had one serving of curry and that was enough for me.
It also took over 35 minutes for our takeaway order and we got three curries and they only gave us two rice, not sure if they were being stingey or just forgot.
Honestly if you are after authentic indian I would not bother with this place.

Went there recently and found the food to be very authentic and yummy. The waiter recommended to us Masala Dosai, and Chicken Chettinad and we loved it. Will be back again. Thanks guys.

The food is good keeping in mind that this is the only restaurant that serves South Indian food like dosas, idlis, etc. however, the senior staff who is the main person there needs a crash course in courtesy and customer service. He has no respect for his customers and is always high headed. He thinks he is the lord and so his manners can go for a toss. I don't think I am so desperate for South Indian food that I will visit this restaurant again and get myself insulted.
The decor needs an immediate change, the outside dining chairs and tables are awful and to top all this is the cutlery and the crockery which need attention. So if the senior staff could divert his attention to such things rather than always pretending to be so arrogant it might help his restaurant.

Fantastic! My partner and I were delighted to find this gem just around the corner from our home. The butter chicken was amongst the best we've tried, the naan was buttery and perfectly cooked, and the dosai was an experience that must be tried. The service was also attentive and polite.
Reommended - I'm sure we'll be eating here regularly from now on.

I have been to the Sunday buffets a lot of times previously and went last Sunday after a few months. Sadly the standards have dropped significantly. There were no more mini puris and the dosas we ordered were cooked for too long and were slighly burnt. The rice and side dishes on the buffet weren't as delicious as they used to be. I understand that the new management has taken over the restaurant.

I was told that the curries in comparison to the UK were a non starter. I just wanted to sample it for myself, and so on my wedding anniversary decided to put the theory to the test. I am a big fan of the masala dosa (8/10)and was very happy, but then when the mains (lamb achari and prawn masala 3/10) arrived I was extremely disappointed. Curries were stodgy, and both tasted the same. The nan was excellent( 9/10).
The utensils have seen better days and the interior out of date. Definitely will not be rushing to eat there. My wife makes curries a hundred times better.

Excellent food served quickly, if you can judge a restaurant by its clientele, then this one definitely hits the mark as many of its customers were of Indian origin.
