Sono Japanese Restaurant Brisbane City is located at the corner of Queen Street and Edward Street in the Queen Street Mall.
It offers an ultimate traditional Japanese dining experience like no other. It has two traditional Japanese private rooms, and eleven Japanese style booths (modern seating is also available).
Sono has a wide range of Japanese sake, beer as well as a great selection of western wines.
Please try our Sakura course or Zen course if you are new to Japanese cuisine, or try our Sashimi Platter to taste the freshest fish in town.
Shokado bento is another popular choice at lunch time, which includes a variety of small Japanese dishes (e.g. sashimi or sushi, tempura, chicken teriyaki and etc.) packed in a Bento box!

After spending far too long eating Japanese in Melbourne, it is always wonderful to come to Brisbane to remind myself what decent Japanese food is all about. The food here is simply flawless. Yes, it's quite expensive, but it's worth a visit just so you can learn how Japanese food can be.

Visit Sono every month when I come to Brisbane and it never let's me down.
The service, the ambience, the food. All exceptional! Always best to pick a few dishes for the table to share, and get the traditional table if you can! Will continue to visit without a second thought.

We were blown away by everything about Sono Restaurant at Portside Wharf. The food (teppanyaki), the ambience (unbelievable) and the staff and service was second to none.
The service, attentiveness and staff in general were extremely professional (yet also very friendly and engaging) and were attentive to our every need without us ever feeling smothered. Our chef was just brilliant, a very talented chef with his cooking skills and the tricks he does throughout the night with his cooking style. The chairs are ever so comfortable and make you feel like you could easily spend hours there drinking and enjoying fabulous food.
Be sure to check out their incredibly impressive wine cellar. Thank you Sono, you have officially become our new favourite restaurant since tonight (07/08/2010).

Had a terrible night there last night. Some dishes were hot on the top and cold on the bottom, some had almost no actual food in them (scampi), all were very small and none were great. The price was way too high for both the actual food, and the serving sizes. Very disappointed.

Food quality alone, this was far and away the best I've ever eaten on a night out. Utterly superb, the sashimi was melt in your mouth fresh. We had the banquet platter and everything on it was to die for. The staff were absolutely attentive, friendly and wonderful to interact with. Restaurant layout/decor full of nice touches.
Only catch: you will pay through the nose. Our meal for four, with two bottles of wine, was over $500. But you will get what you pay for, quality, and if I won lotto I'd blow it all on this place.

This restaurant has a lovely feel and unique warmness to it, yet if you want to pay a ridiculous amount for small meals (and I mean small) then come to Sono. I ordered the Chicken Karrage and this was tasteless unfortunately. Kind of saddened as the meat was also undercooked and for chicken this is not acceptable.
My partner had the trout and when this came out, our eyed popped out of our heads as for the huge price tag, it was size of a small lady's palm! He said though, it was the best piece of fish he has ever eaten, so for the taste, it was wonderful.
You would expect they would have a better range of wines, yet they were expensive and very small servings. There was definitely not 150ml in my glass, and for $12 for the glass was outrageous.
The service was polite yet the waitress was very softly spoken and it was difficult to hear her properly. Overall, it was passable, wouldn't go there again in flash though.

Went to the Port Side Wharf Sono for my birthday dinner. Shared the Sono platter with my boyfriend for $75 per person and were not disappointed! The food was delicious and had great and different flavours to try. We couldn't even manage to finish it all! Service was friendly and prompt and thanked us for waiting for our meal when we hadn't been waiting any longer than we usually do, very Japanese.
The decor was lovely, very traditional Japanese, we thought it would be nice to have a big group and get our own little room. Nice place to go for a special occasion but too expensive to visit regularly. Worth a try though!
