We visited Schonell Pizza Caffe last Friday night prior to seeing Sweeney Todd. It was an extremely busy night and had to wait half an hour in line to be served but once we had placed our order only had to wait about 10 minutes before our buzzer was going off as there were heaps of staff making the pizzas. I must say that the wait certainly was worth it as the pizzas were absolutely delicious and devoured very quickly. Would be worth the drive on a Friday night just for a pizza.

I've been haunting the Pizza Caffe for a long time and the pizza's are as good as ever! Authentic Italian style still, hand made, with lots of choices. The same menu is used. Coffee was good, and the staff are all happy and helpful. Love it when there's a good pianist on the baby grand.

My husband and I have also been going to the Schonell Pizza Caffe for many years and the pizzas have always been, without doubt, the best in Brisbane. I've eaten "gourmet" pizzas from other places, but none have compared to the delicious, crispy, slightly charred bases, the yummy, artful toppings and the excellent value-for-money at Schonell.
Unfortunately, since the renovation, things have gone a little awry. The prices have soared beyond a reasonable increase (and now you have to pay over $1 extra if you want half-and-half), and the toppings are more stingy than they used to be. (Why is it that these greatly lauded restaurant renovations merely tend to bring an increase in snobbery and price, and a decrease in atmosphere, quality and value for money??)
While we hardly dine at Schonnell Pizza Cafe anymore out of principle and impunity, it might still be worth visiting to sample the lingering delights of the Sophia Loren topping, which in its heyday featured generous, juicy piles of wilted spinach, garlic & kalamata olives, and laced through with delectable hits of blue cheese, all on that sensational thin and cispy base.

Just a bit of back groud, I've had pizzas from Naples and all over Italy, so I know what real pizzas taste like. Schonelle Pizzas used to be absolutely marvellous only when Pietro was there and before they renovated the place. The current place do all sorts of short cuts (cost cutting) to their pizzas and it really shows. It's very depressing that the current pizza cafe is so commercialised. I used to visit there a few times a week but now, a couple of times in a year.

This place is a local legend. There are a few other pizza gems in Brisbane but not easily compared becasue they don't have Schonell's soft, thin style pizza.

I've been visiting the Schonell Pizza C. Semi-regularly for 10 years, and the pizzas are consistently superb. Best in Brissy. Proper pizza! What sets the Schonell apart is its bases, which are amazingly good (traditional thin style). The topping combinations are simple, and it's all about quality rather than quantity, so you can really appreciate the flavours.
Only thing to watch for is that as they are a light style (compared with the thick oily stoggy things the competitors call pizza) they are less filling than you might be use to, so order plenty (2 between 2-3 people is about right). Pizza menu is extensive, plenty to suit both carnivores and vegetarians. Can be a long wait at peak times during uni semesters, but worth it.

The best pizza in Brisbane - no questions asked. Even though Pietro the Pizzaiolo has left, the pizzas still rock! If your style of pizza is Pizza hut, Dominos, or Eagle Boys, then don't worry about coming here because THIS is what REAL pizzas should taste like!
Pizza Capers ear your heart out - you wish you could make pizzas this good!!!!
