A salt and battery is not what it used to be. The fish is no longer as fresh and perfect, though the place is still amazingly popular. I believe the owner no longer works at or manages the store full time, which is probably the reason for the decline. Last couple of visits the calamari was rubbery, the fish a bit old-tasting and the scallops a bit off. I have regretfully decided not to eat here again, despite the very professional service.

This place is always so packed that you'd really have to book in advance to get a seat for more than 2 people. It is extemely popular, and not just with the local UQ student crowd.

The salt & pepper calamari is legendary, though it could be served with more slices of lemon (but if you ask, they'll give you more). Salads are generally very good (especially the Greek salad, which is delicious and packed with quality ingredients), but I was sorely disappointed with my last pumpkin salad - packed with far too many huge, cold, slightly undercooked chunks of tasteless pumpkin in proportion to the greens, and no dressing to save it.

I've heard the fish burgers are great, and the fish is generally very good and moist, though my last grilled white fish fillet wasn't nice at all - hard, dry and rubbery.

I highly recommend the excellent value meal of fish/shellfish/calamari of your choice (cooked to your order) with their more-ish chips and generous serve of salad at around $15. Sauces (even humble old vinegar) will cost you extra.
