Sake opened in Brisbane's iconic Eagle Street pier in 2010. Since then, it enjoyed a loyal following and garnered awards. The menu is contemporary Japanese--a mix of new style and classic dishes. There are banquet menus as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options. You can enjoy communal dining or the more intimate booth seating at Sake.

Food 6 Ambience 8 Service 2 Value 1
This place is over-hyped fusion food.
Its not 'Japanese' in the true gastronomic sense.
Nothing wrong with that, but please, don't blab on about it being 'pure'.
But the true evil is the cost of meals in this place - its outrageous bordering on criminal.
Food quality is 7/10. Service 6/10. Decor 8/10. Value for money 1/10.
And, on the day we were there, they had all the air-con blasting away, with all the doors open! Greenthinking they are not.
Do yourself a flavour, go elsewhere, your wallet/purse will appreciate it.
Better, cheaper elsewhere.

Sake offers a very interesting range of modern Japanese cuisine, served tapas style to share. The food was fantastic - a great range of dishes, all delicious. The shrimp popcorn was very tasty, also really enjoyed the thinly sliced wagyu beef, melt in your mouth stuff. The sashimi was very fresh. No room for dessert as we over-ordered on entrees and mains.
What really let Sake down was the service. We were put in a private room and then completely ignored for over 15 minutes, till one of our group asked to be moved. We were then moved to a table in the main part of the restaurant and ignored there till we flagged someone down to order. She didn't think to ask if we wanted to order anything to drink (which we did). We also asked for water which didn't arrive, despite glasses on tables around us being refilled.
Once the manager came over and asked why we'd asked to be moved, and got a polite description of the service issues, the service improved dramatically. They gave us one bottle of wine and an entree on the house to apologise, which was very gracious. I'd prefer to just get decent service, without the angst though. Venue was noisy but very busy on a Friday night so that's to be expected.

Food 8 Ambience 7 Service 1 Value 7
Went to Sake for lunch with some girlfriends. We decided to order our own dishes - apparently this was bucking the trend. They found this extremely difficult to cope with and kept dumping all the dishes in the middle of the table.
The food, on the whole, was sensational. The tacos were delicious, lettuce cups quite delicate and light, and dishes like popcorn prawn and sashimi beef looked and apparently tasted divine.
The service however let it down. Taking plates away before they were finished, putting new wine in used glasses (white wine on top of red!), promising to fix it and replace and never coming back accusing us of eating food that never arrived "the chef said he made them and I put them there between those two girls". Not filling glasses, not providing a wine list after service started and never asking if we would like anything else to drink. Not to mention a bad, bad, attitude - to the point of rude - is just not good enough. Not arrogant/stuck up, just terrible service. Really bad service.
This is a real dilemma because the food was sensational. I'm not sure I could ever go back. It was a disgrace (the service, that is). For no real reason. I can't explain why they were so rude and inept - both at the same time.
Just as well I live in Sydney and don't need to make that decision. Maybe I'll try the one here!
