We ordered two scones with jam and cream but were given jam and cream for only one scone. When we asked for jam and cream for the second scone we were told it was extra and we had to order and pay for it in addition. When I queried it, the senior staff was rude and aggressive.

Beware, do not take friends or family here. This is one of these places where you feel that you are an inconvenience to the staff, only here they take it to the point of open rudeness. I have not been so disappointed in an eating place in Brisbane.

The Food, decidedly average. My Spanish Eggs tasted like someone had emptied a can of tomotoes into the pan, no depth, no presentation, no talent. Cost is similar to other places on the street, but given the quality and service this is not value for money.

My guess is that this place will fall over unless the staff service and food improves, or they continue to get a steam of unsuspecting first time visitors through the door.
Would not go back if you paid me, a waste of time and money.

Had a very bad experience at Poppy's, full of unprofessional, rude staff with very average food. Visited this place for breakfast and ordered scrambled eggs on toast. In my first bite, found an eggshell the size of a 5c piece. Returned it to the kitchen (with no apology from the waitstaff) and the exact same plate was returned to me 1 minute later minus the eggshell. I asked the waitress if this was the same plate of eggs and how did the chef know that there wasn't more eggshell in the rest of the egg?

After requesting a new plate of eggs, the waitress returned to us letting us know that it would take a further 10 minutes wait due to the pile up of other customer's orders. Even after I asked whether my meal could be made priority or if I could have the meal on the house, there was a lack of intelligible response from the waitstaff. After waiting for over 10 minutes for a meal, I requested for my meal to be refunded.

Again, no apology from kitchen staff or waitstaff but they did agree to refund my money. The kitchen staff was not even making my meal! My friends' meals were all very average, my sister ordered bircher muesli with fresh fruit and cream, thinking that it would be a nice dollop of cream. Instead, the muesli was drowning in the cream and you couldn't even tell there was muesli in it until you dug around. Please do Not go to Poppy's. Not worth the money when there are so many other great cafes in the South Brisbane area.

This place seems to attract loyal clients so it must have something going for it, but I don't know what it is. I've been there at breakfast an lunchtimes about 6 or 8 time at the insistence of friends or acquaintances. The coffees are ok, nothing looked particularly interesting on the breakfast menu and what I've see arrive in my companions' plates hasn't looked that different to anywhere else. Others up the road is much more inspiring.

The lunch visits have usually involved a sandwich or roll which is freshly made to order on their own freshly baked bread, but to me seemed pretty expensive for a simple sandwich. I'd recommend it for a simple cup of coffee or as a bakery, their bread, pies, danishes etc to take away seem as good as anywhere. Also beware on saturday mornings Poppys and a few other places nearby seem to get overrun by lycra clad cyclist, who can't seem to find enough spaces to park their bikes.

I'd really like to hear more about what I seem to be missing out on that other reviewers have experienced.

The service in my experience has always been fast, efficient and friendly. This certainly can't be said of other restaurants/cafes in the area. The food is above average and represents excellent value for money.

Loved the buzz of the cafe. It was a pleasant run from where I was staying near the Mater Hospital. Had a chocolate croissant for breakfast, but the pastry really was not croissant flakiness, it was more of a danish. Great coffee and staff were lovely.
