Overview of Pepe's Mexican Restaurant

The family of Pepes have been serving quality Mexican food for 35 years since opening Brisbane's first Mexican restaurant in 1972. In November of 2002 our Taringa store relocated to Jindalee where we have fast became a popular choice for dine-in and takeaway meals.

The size of our meals will ensure that no customer leaves hungry. This gives your family a great opportunity to share meals and try a good variety of our mexican food.

For chilli dips to guacamole dips, enchiladas to burritos, and a whole range more be sure to have a look through our extensive online menu and don't forget we also cater to vegetarians and those who eat gluten free.

We also offer set menus for bookings of 15 or more so if you're looking to book for your birthday, work function or any other special occasions then let us cater to your needs.

    I have dined at Pepe's in Jindalee several times and each time has been worse than the last.

    There is a sign at the door advising customers to wait to be seated. Usually my partner and I have stood at the door or at the counter for several minutes waiting to be seated while staff members avoid eye contact as they walk past. Other staff members can be seen in the kitchen checking their phones or behind the counter having a drink but unless you make a point of waving someone down, the terribly trained staff will not acknowledge you.

    On my last visit, I waited to be seated, while the staff exhibited the above behaviors and other customers walked in, seated themselves and received service from the few staff members actually working. When I noticed that people were seating themselves and staff were ignoring us, we left and went two doors down to the fantastic thai restaurant, where they never ignore you and food is always fresh.

    If by chance you visit this restaurant and manage to be seated, do not hold high hopes of a fresh or impressive meal. My meals have been okay, usually, though quite bland. I eat vegetarian and don't enjoy very spicy food so, perhaps, their more adventurous dishes are more appetizing. However, I do think that if you can't make a bean taco taste fresh then you're doing something wrong.

    Often my meals have something very wrong with them. Twice I have had stale taco/tostadas, and even though they are toasted you can still tell they are stale. I have also been served expired or off avocado guacamole. I wasn't given the opportunity to send it back to the kitchen because once the staff Finally delivered our meals they never returned to the table.

    Staff will avoid looking at you or checking on your table, probably because they know something is wrong with most dishes. When I advised the cashier of the bad guacamole he apologized yet would not remove it from the bill.

    Prices are ok, but for what you pay it is reasonable to expect fresh food and good service. For the suburban area and the poor quality of food and service their prices should be much lower.

    I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I don't know. How they are still in business. Probably the beer and taco specials they do. If people get drunk quickly, they probably don't notice they are eating nonsense. I can only recommend that the owners improve their food suppliers, replace their kitchen staffs and hire some staff with experience. I do also recommend that until this place improves, go to the Thai place because their food is awesome.

    Staff were lovely, food, however, resembled a dogs dinner. Sorry to say, as we ordered the combination meal which was the most expensive meal on the menu and it was very disappointing. We also ordered sangria and had to send that back, it was not drinkable. We won't be back.

    We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal. Complaints made on the night of service are much appreciated as it gives me the chance to try and resolve the problem by either sending out new meals or different drinks because we are not able to do that I would still very much like to resolve this. If you can make contact with me by phoning the restaurant on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday after 4pm and ask for Lisa (General Manager) I will be more than happy to discuss a way that you can return free of charge so we can prove we do offer enjoyable dining experiences. Maybe there is something else you would like to try such as our Fajitas or our Seafood Burritos these meals are extremely popular and well liked.

    I am very puzzled as to how and why you were given such an ordinary meal considering the Combination Meal for two consists of our top selling meals, we are currently experiencing the busiest year we have ever had with over 6 Food businesses in our area closed down due to flooding it has been a challenge trying to keep up as many people do not make bookings and staff are sometimes limited in availability. Nothing disappoints me more than having customers walk out unhappy so I very much welcome trying to resolve this with you Nic.

    I like their food, have been there at least 10 times. The staff has always been friendly and provided good service. The value is great, good food for a small price. Definitely on my list.

    I have been here twice. The first time the wait staff forgot about us and we walked out after half an hour waiting to place our order. The second time the service was average and the food wasn't very good. I'd rather travel the extra 10 minutes somewhere else, the food and service are both better.

    Pepe's was the pioneer of Mexican food in Queensland. Most other restaurant owners worked for or copied their restaurants, recipes and menus. I have never been disappointed with their food and I can see why they are regular finalists in the best restaurant for their area almost every year.

    We have a commercial supply of avocados through their vision and efforts. They encouraged growers to plant avocado trees nearly 40 years ago because this industry was going to take off. In those early days, some growers would say, “avocados, what are they?" or "avocados, do you eat them" Now this popular Mexican fruit dating back 5,000 years joins the tomato, also from the same area and is used in other cuisine besides Mexican.

    I've been to plenty of Mexican restaurants and none of them even begin to compare to the quality of Pepe's. All of the food is so good that I can never decide what to have. Pepe's has such an unique and sensational taste that it leaves you craving for more, however you'll never leave with the feeling of an empty stomach. Its food has the same elements of traditional Mexican but presented in a modern style to suit the western culture which makes it perfect for the whole family.

    Service hasn't always been its major strength, although recently my experience has seen a vast improvement to the quality of attention to customers, and if Pepe's are able to keep this up they will certainly become more popular than they already are. Once you experience the taste and quality of the food, you'll be hooked! There truly is no other better Mexican restaurant in Brisbane.

    Been visiting this restaurant for about 12 years, my favourite. The food is always very fresh with loads of crisp lettuce and cheese. Plenty of reasonably priced mexican fare, and a selection of other meals for those not really into it. The chocolate pudding is to die for!

    We went there, was not welcomed or shown to a table, had to find our own table. After ordering, waited for about 40 minutes before a plate of nachos was served and then waited another 30 minutes for mains to come out. Unimpressive and all meals had the same taste basically. I have never felt so ripped off in my entire life. Going there has put me off mexican. Also had to wait about 10 minutes to pay the bill.

    After leaving our favorite Mexican restaurant in Sydney, we were relieved to find Pepe's. The selection of meals is fantastic and it's great for the kids. Very Happy!!
