I have long considered the Mughal Palace the best Indian food I have had in Brisbane and have been a regular takeaway customer for years.

I have never had questionable food, Ever, that was the thing, the food was great Always, every mouthful a delight.

But last night it was at a level that was pitiful, Samosas was greasy, not the usual tasty savory pastry, lamb cutlets were anorexic although they gave 4 rather than the usual 3, not tasty at all, reheated would be my guess, the butter chicken was barely identifiable as butter chicken and had the wrong consistency and taste, the naan breads were unusually greasy, the papadums were burnt, the rice tasted funny.

So much fail in one order from a place that has previously been Faultless for years.

Different staff on front counter, so I can only imagine it has changed hands, such a shame as I did not mind spending $50 for a takeaway meal with leftovers for the next day.

My first inkling that things may not be ok was when we walked in and we were the only people in the restaurant. Not to worry I thought, plenty of good reviews about this place, and, perhaps, 7pm was a bit early on a friday night. We chose 3 dishes, butter chicken, lamb korma and prawn curry. When they came out I almost choked. Little bowls with a few skerricks of meat in them. King prawns turned out to be half size, perhaps, bay prawns might have been a better description.

Anyway, the butter chicken was very nice, what there was of it and the other dishes were okay, but for the cost, $18 per dish, it was ridiculously overpriced. When we complained the service girl indicated there should be 8 pieces of meat per bowl. We didn't get that and if they think diners will accept paying $2 per piece of little meat, they are going to stay empty for a long time. Sorry this place is a rip off. I suggest try somewhere else that gives value for money. We walked away still very hungry and won't be back.

We ordered the vegetarian combination, Chicken tikka medium, and beef vindaloo hot, with raita and a spinach and cheese naan. Customer service was impeccable and the take away order came early and the food was fantastic. The onion pakora was slightly overcooked but completely negligible compared to the rest of the meal. Just the right amount of heat for two people who like hot food but can still taste the spices in the cooking. Will definitely be returning.

Best Indian in Brisbane by far! This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend so we decided to go try it out yesterday. The food was delicious! I've been to a few other indian restaurants in town and surprised I haven't heard of this one earlier! We're not big fans of hot food but we tried the butter chicken and lamb sagwala in mild and it was perfect with garlic and cheese naan! Had no spice in it but it was full of flavour :). The service was great, nothing to complain about and the prices for each meal was reasonable. Overall Mughal Palace is defiantly our new favourite restaurant and we'll be back for more! Highly recommended.

Scoopon voucher ripoff! Unfortunately, I need to go into detail here so that other potential customers do not get conned into buying any kind of online deals/vouchers for Mughal Palace!

I purchased 3 Scoopon vouchers. Below is a summary of what the voucher stated (ie. what each voucher was supposed to get us) versus what we actually received: - "Scrumptious entree platter with chicken tikka, kebabs and pakoras" = 2 bite sized pieces of chicken tikka (each around the size of a 10 cent coin and about a quarter the size of a regular piece of chicken tikka - note I said "piece" and not "serving"!).

1 piece of seekh kebab (around 20cm in length at most, around a third the size of a normal kebab or maybe even less!) and a single pakora (admittedly this was a good sized pakora but still, the deal said "pakoras" as in more than one pakora!) - "any curry from the menu" = served in a small, round bowl (around half the size of a serve if paying for the dish, as in if not using a voucher.

How do I know this? Because we ordered a serve of butter chicken for our kids and the serving size of this dish was around twice the size of our main which we received as part of the Scoopon deal) - "Plus sides of naan, rice, salad or raita and a glass of wine" = details as per below: "naan" - apparently this means only plain naan, not garlic naan.

Also, apparently this means you get One (that's right, a single) naan for the table, regardless of the number of vouchers/diners you have per table. This is despite the fine print clearly stating that "multiple Scoopons may be used for group bookings but each diner must have a Scoopon".

I initially ordered 3 garlic naans (assuming we could have one each per Scoopon). The [younger/nice] waitress serving us happily took our order and without mentioning that this was going to cost extra. The [older/not so nice] waitress then eventually came and advised us that garlic naans were not included and that we only get one plain naan for the table. We were also told that "you should know this"!

To which I replied, "no, you should be telling us this"! "rice" and "salad or raita" - this was the only part of the voucher that was in line with expectations, and common sense for that matter! "glass of wine" - this was not offered to us. We had to ask for this after about sitting at our table for half an hour.

Also, I had taken our own wine (and placed it on our table) to have with the meals. However, with our experience being so disappointing, we just wanted to eat and leave as quickly as possible. Hence, we did not touch our wine. However, we were charged $5 corkage for simply bringing our wine and putting it on the table, despite not having consumed any of it!

In summary, I have bought in excess of 20 vouchers for dinner in the past 7 months or so and Mughal Palace has to rate as the absolute worst experience. I will seriously advise anyone considering buying any online vouchers for Mughal Palace to not do so. You will not be saving any money by buying the deal. You will either have to order more food or go hungry! And worst of all, you will feel like a 2nd class citizen when in the restaurant. Enough said...

I have been to a lot of indian restaurants and I must admit I can't find one that competes with this one for food quality. We have been on many occasions and we are yet to be disappointed. The service is ok but nothing to write home about but you get what you pay for. We will be back again and again. We strongly recommend if you are after some great indian cuisine.

I don't rate this restaurant at all. The service was mediocre at best. We were served within an acceptable amount of time but a couple next to us waited for ever until they complained about the wait and not even an apology for the delay from the wait staff. In fact, not a word, they just put the food on the table. I have had much better Indian, though I have been living in Melbourne where I have been spoilt for choice. We won’t visit Mughal Palace again even if it is 5 minutes from home.

We absolutely LOVED this place. It was recommended to us by a friend, whose family dines here and they love it. Prior to here, we were Sitar fans... I think we've found a new replacement, this place is fantastic, the food is divine, and the service was great!! Highly recommend!!
