I was really looking forward to going here as I drive past this place every day, so for my birthday, my partner and I decided to go there. It was a Wednesday night and there was only one other table of two people there, this should have been our first sign not to go there!!!
The entrees were nice (carrot dip and escargot) but the mains were nothing to write home about. The Tagine is NOT what you would expect a Tagine to be - ie not a stew but rather a quiche/omelette type slice, overpriced and very average!
When I asked whether what I received was indeed a Tagine, the owner stated that the waiter should have explained what I was to expect, but the waiter could hardly speak or understand English so how could he have explained!
All in all I was very disappointed with this place and would not come back or recommend it.
We have been there several times and I must say everytime we go there it gets better and better! The food is wonderful, unique and so tasty. The athmosphere is gorgeous and the staff are really nice and friendly!
You really feel comfortable at La Kasbah, it's really one of our favorite restaurant.
I love the Lamb Shanks, the Orange Duck, the Rabbitt, the Lamb prune... I mean everything there is wonderful! I highly recommend it!!!
Great food, friendly service. A little on the expensive side and portions are small. So make sure you order entree - main and dessert. Other than that a really enjoyable evening.
I went here on a thursday night, (last minute birthday celebration) I had a booking for two at 7:30pm and when we arrived we were greeted with smiles, kisses and firm handshakes. Throughout the night we were shown much attention by all staff which was great. Our host was just fantastic, he was very polite even taught us basic French words.
Our meals: Entree - Escargo (snails in garlic butter) these were absolutley delicious! it was both our first time trying them and we were amazed, the bread they serve with it was great to, nice and crisp!
Mains: Duck Le Orange (me) Lamb Shanks (him), both meals were served with potato and parsley - great meals cooked just right, meat was basically falling off the bones. Dessert: Crepe Suzette (me) Creme Bruele (him) both mouthwatering just to die for.
I hadn't organised to have a cake or anything but when I told the waitress it was my friend's birthday (he was in the batthroom) and asked if she could do something special to his dessert (Creme Bruele), she added a strawberry which had a sparkler in it, they sang happy birthday in English and then in French.....Amazing. One other thing, between meals we were given orange blossom scented hand fresher that smelt beautiful.
So in all, a great restaurant, very relaxed atmosphere. Staff was very welcoming. We would certainly dine here again.
What a disaster. We came here as a group of 17 on a Friday night (7.30 booking). There were only 3 tables with people at them, one of which left just as we sat down, and the other containing around 8 people.
The "waiters" certainly weren't pushy about selling you a drink. In fact, after the 1st hour sitting down, we had to go and ask them. And no, there wasn't any water on the table, or BYO drinks. Also, there was no drinks list, or indication of price. I was told we have "nearly all" the cold beers except the one I asked for (Coopers). We weren't offered drinks again that night, hence certainly weren't intoxicated to offer this bad review.
Now for the food. Whilst ridiculously overpriced, general consensus was it tasted fairly good. Thats after we finally got it. (All except one of us, anyway) Ordering was, in theme, a disaster, and took forever. They had to return twice to tell us they didn't have certain dishes, and then a third time to check how many mains we had ordered. Dont be fooled by the "Lamb Shanks". That should be lamb shank. Small one at that. (I was wondering if they'd simply run out of them too, and decided to give us one each instead.
Now for the exciting part - paying the bill. Of course, it was a "one bill per table" policy. We'd made a couple of complaints about the extremely poor service, and the small meal sizes. While tallying up our cash to pay the $500 plus bill, the chef??? took exception to somebody walking outside before all the money was counted. They thought we were doing the runner (we weren't) Things escalated, very quickly - the staff started shouting at us. We had, admittedly, spilt some red wine on their (already dirty) white table cloth. Apparently all Australians are "disgusting pigs". The French guy called the police. The girl behind the counter said to one of the females in our group that "where I come from, I'd kill you". When we asked where she came from.... "New York Mother F@##er..."
Needless to say, we quickly as possible finished tallying the money, and left before they started shooting.
Overall, you could have a memorable night here.
I'd suggest eating before you go, taking a largish group and spilling a bit of wine. The staff yelling and screaming at you, and making death threats as you leave provided a pleasant adrenaline rush, and will leave me telling the story for years to come. Your $30 is for entertainment, not the average tasting, small servings of "exotic" food.
As somebody said outside, these people should NOT BE IN BUSINESS!!!
P.S The belly dancer was very good, and got the "crowd" up for a dance.
It is an interesting menu, with half the choices traditional French food (yes you can choose escargot or creme brulee), to traditional Tunisian food (which is not the same as Moroccan). We had not planned to go there, but we will go back. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and their practice of dripping a few drops of rose water into your hands to "wash" them prior to eating was surprising and special.
