This place has really had its day - very 1980's ordinary! The rooms downstairs stink of mould, the pasta is served in watery sauce like it's out of a jar and the service is all gawky teenager.

I had dinner here recently. We ordered lamb shanks, with some herb bread and salad to start.

Overall, the food is tasty, service is not bad, and the ambience in the tropical courtyard is pleasant, though it is probably better when it is bright outside (more for lunch then dinner). I'm looking forward to trying their pizzas for a lazy lunch but I'll make sure not to order anything beforehand, given their portion sizes. The portion sizes are very, very generous, and I feel they may make the portions more manageable ("less is more") and the prices a little more cafe-level rather than upscale-restaurant level, you can easily spend more than $30 per person even if you eat pizza.

I am with copycook, now that Brisbane is starting to realise italian style less is more is best, kookaburra is now behind the times.

Very decent pizza's kind of a cross between traditional and gourmet. The bacon and gorgonzola one is magic indulgence. Very good bases. The service is mixed, when stressed, the staff seem a little short and grumpy and I hesitated to ask for feat of being snapped at. Generally they hold their toungue and just pass the service test, just. Great old building, the setting and big back area so nice atmosphere. Value is average to ok.

I went to the Kookaburra Cafe on a Monday night and the place was busy, the staff were friendly and helpful. But as for the food it was fantastic. The bacon, banana and chilli pizza was a taste sensation as the menu suggests. My partner had the supreme and said the same. The ingredients were fresh and flavoursome.
I will definitely be returning in the near future.

Back when pizza was only the oily circles you got from pizza hut and the like, this was a step up. But now that gourmet pizzas are available almost everywhere this has failed to keep up. Very few original flavours and even existing ones not well done. Almost walked out the service was so poor. Though not that expensive was not worth it.
