Had dinner here on a Sunday night and was very impressed with the food. There were some quite innovative and delicious dishes on the menu (eg the duck with cherry chutney) and they did the classics well (eg gnocchi and veal scallopine). Quite pricey (mains are about $40) but the service is excellent and it's a chic restaurant in a great location.
What a huge disappointment. The trio of entrees was of crab dishes and it was recommended that we eat the warm lasagne first and finish with the cold salad, it would have been better the other way round. The bugs and gnochi dish was badly presented and looked an offputting mess. The steak and potatoes looked like something out of mum's kitchen! Noise level was so high we had to ask to be moved outside for the undercooked souffle. We won't be back.
I've been to Il Centro twice, once with work and once on holiday, and both times were memorable. The prices are high but given the location and the quality of the food and service, it is more than acceptable.
On my most recent visit I had the had the sandcrab lasagne and the lamb on the menu. Both were excellent. I'd recommend the sandcrab lasagne to anyone but even if you are having it as a main I would suggest you only get an entree size serve. It is incredibly rich.
I had the opportunity to go to Il Centro while on a busisness trip to Brisbane. I was fairly unexpecting, as restaurants on a wharf (cf. Darling Harbour) are usually good, but pricey and not outstanding. What a surprise....
I have to say, the sandcrab lasagna was one of the most exquisite I've had so far. The sauce was simply perfect, although the fresh pasta a tad overcooked. For entrée, I had a polenta filled Zuchinni flowers, which was of high standard too.
The wine list, although not that adventurous, has got solid Aussie classics, that would accommodate well with your food. I do recommend Il Centro, although it is a bit pricey. So get your wallets and enjoy a more than decent meal.
