Right next door to Claret House Wine Bar, perfect for pre and post dinner drinks.
Stylish cooking with an Asian edge is the star attraction of Grasshopper, located in the eat/drink precinct of hip, inner city Teneriffe. With a deck perfect for people watching and a convivial atmosphere, Grasshopper is the kind of casual chic that appeals to a proper Saturday night out as well as a quick Monday night bite. Starters are priced from $8-$18 and mains from $15 to $28 making Grasshopper perfect for birthdays and group dinners.
Wendy Hall, City News: "Grasshopper Asian Kitchen has talented Head Chef Minh Le, whose CV lists time at Alchemy and Seasalt at Armstrongs, at the helm. His colourful menu aims to raise the bar in the City's Asian offerings. Gorgeous decor transports diners to another world. One word: Go."
Natascha Mirosch, Courier Mail: "Grasshopper’s menu...wanders Asia, taking a little of this and that and spicing it with something from somewhere else. Minh’s food was excellent - showing a sure hand with the pretty tricky job of balancing strong Asian flavours. There’s a pretty solid wine list, with quite a few aromatic blends and some interesting drops from places as far as Austria, Oregon and Argentina."

Really good value, this is City cooking, some of the dishes being almost fine dining, with relaxed ambience and casual dress code. I had scallops to start followed by duck and both were excellent, I would have paid another $10 for the duck. The service was friendly but unobtrusive. Not the longest wine list, but enough to choose from. Very good value from start to finish.

Refreshingly different menu with some wonderful tastes and great conbinations, brilliant, attentive, yet discrete service across a table of 14+ taking in 3 courses and a lot of wine, wonderful desserts just not tacked on to the end and a great location. Very much undiscovered, with a smashing wine bar next door for before and after. I could go on, but I think the other reviews below say it all.

The food was beautiful, the service was flawless, prompt and courteous. This is a great addition to the New Farm/Teneriffe restaurant scene.

I dined at Grasshopper with a large group last week and could not have asked for anything more! The food was fantastic, the service was attentive without being over the top and the atmosphere on the night was perfect.

I took my Dad to Grasshopper last Sunday for lunch and so glad I did. The food was sensational! We started with the pork spring rolls and the pork sang choi bao, both dishes were divine. For main I had the yellowtail kingfish with calamari, king prawn and mussels in a thai green curry, the flavours of the dish were amazing. Dad had the beef cheeks that had been slow poached for 6 hours in a vietnamese stock, he said the beef just melted in his mouth.
I enjoyed a couple of glasses of Henschke riesling and Dad some Innocent Bystander pinot which matched our meals perfectly. We both finished with a cup of vietnamese coffee, it has a hint of chilli and is served with coconut cream. It finished off our great lunch really well. We will both be recommending Grasshopper to all of our friends, and will be returning very soon.

A group of old school friends and I visited Grasshopper recently. The menu was impressive, and after consulting with the friendly staff, even the fussiest of our eaters was accommodated. The meals were a good size, clean plates all around but the two things that really struck us were the quality of the produce and balanced flavours. The consommé with the duck, in particular, was exceptional.
We occasionally had to repeat ourselves when chatting as it was quite busy, but the outside dining area was sheltered and well lit. We will definitely be back!

We tried it over Easter. Very bad idea. Food was gross, service was poor and overpriced no matter had it been good or not.
