It might be worth a go on a week night but definitely not on the weekend. Staff were rude from start to finish, our table wasn't ready when we arrived so they shoved us in the cocktail bar which was painfully loud. When we asked the maitre de when the table would be ready she walked away from us without acknowledging why then returned with an abrupt "Look, someone will get you when it's ready you just have to wait" and that was it.
Staff throughout the meal were rude and had a "too busy to deal with you" attitude. Food was okay but not worth $18.50 (they only do entree size). Only good part was the cocktails, but steer clear of the Garuva Tickle, tasted like whatever they had left over poured into a glass. No atmosphere, cheap decor, be prepared to sit on the floor and shout your conversation all night. Will not be returning.
Ambience is great, fun place to go with a group of people. Drinks are reasonably priced and they have a great range of cocktails. The food is tasty but what lets this place down is the price/portion sizes. $18.50 for an entree size meal is not good value.
We had heard a lot about this place, so when visiting Brisbane we decided to stop in for a romantic dinner. The ambience was nice, however, the food was terrible. The food arrived in 5 minutes, which alarmed us (must have all been pre cooked & reheated).
The curry lamb shanks were far from curry, the meat was sinewy - avoid this one at all costs. The Yakatori skewers were tolerable, but 4 for $18.50! When we attempted to share our disappointment with the staff, we were brushed aside and he didn't seem to care much. We certainly won't be back.
Wonderful and unique atmosphere. Cocktails were absolutely divine. The food is good, the portions are 'large entree' sized, but the prices are very reasonable. It's hard to catch the attention of the waitstaff due to the curtains, but they are generally pretty attentive anyway. We have been here several times and always enjoyed ourselves. Particularly good for a group of say 8-10 people.
Garuva - the place to be, definitely one of the zenest places in Brisbane. The partitioned curtain 'cubicles' give enough peace of mind and tranquility to set the ambience - the sounds make you aware that you are not alone... We first went to the lounge room out the back where freshly squeezed cocktails were served. This was followed by a return trip to curtain heaven where we sat on pillows and had our wine and food brought on a giant tray. Excellent stuff!! The food was delightful but the portions a little on the light side. Anyway, it was definitely an awesome experience and I would recommend it to all!
