Overview of E'cco Bistro

Located on the fringe of Brisbane's CBD, e'cco is a Modern Australian bistro brought to life in a historic tea warehouse. It has been serving Brisbane patrons since 1995. The menu is understated in print but absolutely fabulous on the plate. The wine list is concise and diverse.

I was in Brisbane a couple weekend ago. My friend booked a table for us saturday night. As it was very busy we were given a time slot only 6.30-8.00. After having great time in Brisbane supper club near by, we were little late.

Our waiter, Nhu, was lovely. Knowing the menu well, discrete and very polite. Her wine suggestion was also honest, we were happy we took her advise. We were pushing for time and Nhu made sure we don't have to rush for our meal, she was able to shuffle some bookings and notified so before 8pm.

Overall, we enjoyed our first dining experience in Brisbane. However, there was a waiter with a crossed face being soooo rude. When I asked where the ladies were, he pointed with his great big chin without talking to me and he wasn't carrying anything. I found it very very rude.

Ecco is an institution. Many of my visits have been enjoyable. birthdays, anniversaries, ecco delivers great service and tasty food.

Recently for my birthday we lashed out and spent up well on wine. We rarely do this. The staff in charge of the wine list know their wines, very well educated and polite. The food is always great, can't go past the brioche and mushrooms.

I will always go back to Ecco, people have different experiences in all restaurants. Try it for yourself and then judge.

Well wait a total shame! We came to Ecco for a Friday lunch with three work colleagues and it was a massive disappointment to say the least! The waitress was rude we had to wave her down at least four times to get some attention and the restaurant was not even full. When I asked her for a dessert wine she went through what seemed like a lifetime of explanation regarding each of the wines on the menu to which I said sorry I just want the sweet wine no need for all that explanation and she then muttered they are all sweet dear!

All I can say is she is lucky my boss wasn't at the table as she would have been put in her place quick smart. I do not appreciate being called dear by someone younger than me and certainly not by a waitress at a restaurant like Ecco. Then comes the two younger kitchen staffs at the pass over looking the restaurant both did not stop staring at our table all afternoon. We nearly got up and asked that they were told to stop it as it made us totally uncomfortable.

Clearly they were checking out the three exceptionally good looking women at our table. A glance every now and then would have been fine but to stare continuously is total unprofessional. I'm not going to bother saying much about the food as it was average. We were tossing up between Aria and Ecco, from now on it will be Aria. We won't go back to Ecco!

This place is not quite what is used to be. Prices have moved into a different stratosphere as the restaurant's reputation has grown, but quality and service is lagging somewhat. I have had some perfectly fine/very nice meals there, but some pretty mediocre experiences as well. They do seem to have an issue with overcooking their beef and some of the desserts are pretty pedestrian (the passionfruit pavlova in particular). Better food and value to be found elsewhere in Brisbane.

Was looking foward to this one but my over cooked medium rare aged beef ruined the meal for me, we were treated to free dessert but a restaurant of this supposed standard should not have to do so.

The food did not disappoint, all dishes at our table were outstanding. The decor was pleasant. The ambience did, however, disappoint, it was like eating in a cafeteria with all the attendant clattering and chattering. Definitely not the place for a romantic dinner for two. Unlike other reviewers I did not find the staff 'superior'. The service was average but friendly.

I've been there twice, and booked to go there next week for my mum's birthday.
Last time I went there, food was amazing and service wasn't bad. The highlight was the food! Great veal and amazing dessert. Waitress was nice enough to recommend best way to enjoy this particular dessert (using hand rather than folk).

Service in general is bit stuck up yet somewhat casual for the price they charge. Polite but lacking in smiles and "eagerness" to please you. By no means they were rude, but got a feeling that they thought they were better than customers because they worked at "Ecco". But then I am Japanese, so I'm used to being treated like queen at restaurants/stores.

Restaurant ambience to me is average. Nice but nothing special. Seating can be more comfortable. Third time lucky. I think fourth time would depend on the service we get on third visit.

I really liked the decor in this place, very nice and swish. Quite a small restaurant and it did get a little noisy. The food was fantastic, I had tender veal on a salad of fetta and vegetables which was the perfect flavour combination. My parents also loved their meals and the chocolate souffle dessert was delicious. We didn't have any problems with service but I often notice the difference at places like this when I'm there with my boyfriend as opposed to my parents. I would definitely recommend it for a special occasion!

A good place to go with a small group but not for the function I hosted. I am from Sydney and was told the E'cco was one of the best restaurants in Brisbane, so we booked a function there. We were a large group (15).

Complaint 1: While waiting for people to arrive, we were standing by the bar having pre-dinner drinks. We were still waiting for a couple of people BUT we were rushed to sit at our table quite aggressively! Very rude!!! Complaint 2: I was disappointed to see that the area we were given had random tables next to us for other guests. I know I can't expect exclusivity but we did take most of the space in that small area near the bar so I would think to make us feel special they would have just given us that whole section. Complaint 3: we were divided into two tables because the booth seats meant anyone sitting in the middle could not get out without people getting up and letting them out. So no surprise then that the night was not conducive to networking... not only were we rushed into sitting down but we also could not talk to anyone on the other table!

The only saving grace is that when I wanted to change the entree for our set menu, the waitress had allowed this. But then again, this is just basic service! I have told my events manager not to book us at E'cco again.

Travelling internationally regularly for my occupation I've had the pleasure of dining in some wonderful restaurants around the world. Ecco rates up there with the best of them. A charming bistro with wonderful food, attentive and knowledgeable staff and a relaxed environment without the attitude. Have never been disappointed there yet.
