I was at Cha Cha Char earlier this week after hearing so many people rave about it. It was one of the most disappointing restaurants I've ever been too. It's no wonder why they haven't been awarded best restaurant in 2008 and no hats for them too! The service is awful, the senior staff refused to seat us at the table just because 2 people were running late and he was skeptical that they wouldn't turn up.
The steak is mediocre and the price is ridiculous for the quality we got! The pumpkin soup was worse than the one served at the coffee club. I would never go back there again and wouldn't recommend anyone else to do so. If you're looking for good steak, try others. Cha Cha Char is one to avoid.
Went to Chars tonight. Very disappointing experience unfortunately. I have been to Chars many times over the years, and went fully expecting a lovely evening. Firstly, we were seated at a table which had broken legs and kept wobbling and listing over everytime once of us lent on it. Secondly and more importantly, the service was atrocious! We waiting ages to order, and when we did, my order came out wrong!
No one came to ask how the food was, in fact we had to flag down our waiter from across the room just to ask for my order to be corrected. My plate was then taken away and brought back after my partner had finished his meal, only to have all my sides/condiments forgotten. Again - I had to flag down another waiter to help me out and again no one bothered to even check whether I had the right meal now.
A further wait of 25 mins thereafter just to ask for the bill. At the end of the evening, we received the bill only to find we had been charged $110 for a bottle of wine, when I had only order 1 glass. Again a further 10 mins just to have the bill adjusted. What a joke.
I don't have a problem with any of the price on this menu, I would be happy to spend whatever on a lovely night out, but the service and lack of care was a total nightmare. I won't be returning to CCC anytime in the near future.
I think this place thinks it's better than it is. I got the impression was what people liked to regard as a 'posh' restaurant and certainly the prices complied with this. The service was great but very uptight. The waitress poured some wine and dribbled a bit and apologised profusely and looked so ashamed - frankly, who cares. I seriously hope no person would crack about that! Service should be friendly and attentive but also at ease and it wasn't here.
I did really enjoy the food - steak and sides were lovely and lemon tart for dessert was delicious. What really got my goat was that the waitress asked if we wanted some bread rolls with our meals and we said yes. For three small bread rolls we had $10 appear on our bill. I complained but was told that this was not deceptive, that the bread rolls were on the menu and it is no different to the waitress asking if we'd like any other accompaniment but I disagree - the question was framed in a way to 'upsell' or get us to spend more, otherwise the waitress would have referred to the menu.
The food was good but not worth that much and yes, very noisy. As for the posters in the toilets, that's a bit of bad PR on their behalf.
I was shocked at the service because the staff are a little snobbish and rude. I went with another lady, both of us must look quite young in our twenties, and they really seemed to look down on us! Also, the waiter actually told me not to order the steak that I wanted and I really did not feel respected at all! I didn't find the steak particularly spectacular. I think I would rather go elsewhere for better value for money and where I would feel more comfortable and not looked down upon!
The food was excellent! Our steaks came out perfect but the service sucks! Our waiter purposely ignored us as its so obvious that the 2 of us women we are tourists. He made us wait 15 minutes after we told him we will decide in 2 minutes to take our order. He didn't even bring our steaks to us. It was the assistant who served us.
After our meal was over it took him half an hour before coming to our table to clean up the dishes. Our table is sort of in the middle but near the cashier. We are not even tucked away in some corner. For dessert we got the menu but can't wait for him so we just paid our meal at the cashier. We are not cheap we even ordered the most expensive thing on the menu.
Too loud, too expensive, can't cook a medium steak to save themselves (had two attempts and wanted a third). As had been said below, there are better steak places to go to in Brisneyland particularly if you want to talk to the people you are dining with. Staff snobbery can also be an issue if you're not wearing a QRU tie.
Have taken clients here about 4 times in the past 12 months at their request as and dined there twice myself personally. More the corporate steakhouse. The only problem is it is too loud to talk unless you are able to get a table near the windows. They can cook a Well Done steak with out cremating it which is a bonus and some of the staff are friendly.
Some staff think they must be royalty especially the staff who greet and seat you so maybe they need to remember they are the first thing people see. Good to try if you like steak but there are some other great quality places in Brisbane where you can have a great night with a quality meal.
We've been to this place about 4 times over the past 1 1/2 years and have (fairly consistently) been really happy. The first two times, the steak was EXCELLENT and that beautiful entree with the bruschetta-style bread with the gravy was so good.
The third time we went (which was actually about 3 months ago) we made a booking for 8 pm, we got there at 8:05 pm and our table had been given to someone else, we had to wait at the bar for 45 minutes!!
And the steaks were tough and gristly, plus the restaurant was sooo loud there was no way we could talk to each other. The last time we went, most recently, it was also not that great. The steak was less than excellent quality and the restaurant was once again so loud you could barely hear anyone talk. I don't mind some atmosphere noise, but when it's like a nightclub, it's not pleasant when you're not in for that kind of night.
OK this is a steak house.........so what do you expect???..............great steaks and good service and a good wine list to go with it all. In this area it doesn`t disappoint but the value for money is just not there. Anyway I suppose it's what you are looking for that counts.
One thing that would put many female customers offside is the stupid advertorial in the toilets for the "Char Restaurant" in Darwin......which does depict two inappropriate pictures of a female in the nude and a profile of a crocodile. 'It's just art" but the stupidity of the 2 pictures means that we will not be back to this one!! We are not wowsers but c`mon it`s not the 80`s anymore and we deserve a little more respect. We also learnt that there has been many other complaints about this as well. So you make up your own mind.
