I am constantly amazed that people rate the BCH as having the best steak in Brisbane. I have formed this opinion having eaten here on numerous occasions over the years. But the most recent visit was by far the worst. Parking is always a nightmare but this night was especially bad, blocks in the rain in heels is never fun.
As part of a large group, the 'go up and order yourself' was about the only positive thing I can say.
My order (for 2) consisted of: calamari and 2 steaks (rare rib fillet with mushroom sauce and medium wagyu with pepper sauce). On going to collect our meals we discovered that they had in fact given away our calamari to somebody else, as we had been waiting close to an hour at this time, we elected for a refund rather than trying again.
The steaks were both rib fillets, both cooked medium, the only thing they got right was mushroom sauce on one and pepper sauce on the other. So back we went where the staff 'found' the correct steaks. Second time was no better. One steak (the wagyu) was almost correct though to say it was cooked medium was questionable. The other was terrible, one end was well done, the other rare (as ordered) so again, back for a refund.
Sometimes mistakes are made, but a place renowned for it's steaks should be able to get the cooking correct! While the BCH does have a good atmosphere, that just isn't enough. We won't be back, there are much better places to get a steak in Brisbane!
A nice relaxed place for a meal, although as a new customer I found the set up a little confusing. Steak was good and cooked to my liking. A little pricey, but the steak makes it worth it. A nice spot for an al fresco meal.
I liked this venue. We went for a quiet Tuesday lunch and sat outside facing the water. The first waitress we had didn't get my order right but the second one brought out the missing vegies straightaway and was very helpful.
The prawns in the prawn cocktail were massive, pretty good for an entree. They weren't sweet but they were fresh. Our mains were generous and cooked just right. Would go back for a special occasion, the prices are higher than a normal pub as you'd expect from the location.
I enjoyed the atmosphere of the BCH, it has a very airy modern feel to it. However, I came with high expectations of a good steak, and was quite disappointed. I had the Wagyu rump ($32) which did not come as rare as I would have liked, and was a poor quality of meat. I would still recommend BCH as a good venue for drinks though.
I am a devout follower of a good steak; I don't usually cook them at home so I expect a pearler when I go out for one. In the past I usually go Hogs Breath (Byron Bay is the best by far) Spesh when in the mood for a pub type atmosphere. so I must say this is one of my favourites...steak to the max. NEVER EVER if you want a steak get it cooked more than medium, if you want the proper steak experience listen to the advice of the staff about how each portion should be cooked for MAX satisfaction...simple rules. Ps. the beer is cold and above average selection! Go the BCH!
Bored appearing staff, apart from the very good steak, the food was very indifferent, we had heard a lot about this venue and were very disappointed and can't see what all the fuss is about, yes a good steak but there must be more to a meal than that. The wait wasn't worth it.
