I visited this restaurant with a group of 18 members from our local club on a recent Wednesday evening when it was advertised (& confirmed by a billboard outside) that 20% discount was offered. Soon after we were seated the female staff announced that because we were such a large group, our orders would take a little while to prepare, so in order for us not to wait so long, they were offering us some bread on the table in the interim.
We happily agreed to this - there were no conditions attached & we assumed this was a gratuity since we were such a large group. However, when it was time to pay the bill she returned to inform our host that the 20% discount did not apply as we had received bread instead! Since our total bill came to around $600 we were missing out on approximately $120 discount. Obviously the cost of the bread was a fraction of this amount.
Up until then we had been quite happy with everything, but her sly way of withdrawing our discount entitlement left us all with a very sour taste. Be aware that unless you stick to your guns if you go on a "special" night that you are likely to not get what you expect.
Response from Management:
It was with dismay that we read the above review and immediately responded by letter to the organiser of the function apologising for any misunderstandings and offering a voucher to compensate the group.
The discount was not withdrawn in a sly way but options were discussed with the organiser and an agreement reached.
The following is an extract from the response from the Club's secretary.
"I am writing to apologise on behalf of the Club and specifically those members who dined at you premises on Wednesday........The unfortunate action of posting a review on the internet was not that of this club but that of a member who has acted alone to express their opinion. From what I understand the root cause of any conflict concerned the discount and I am also given to understand that discussions with our members and yourself or staff reached and amicable and suitable agreement."
Sueflies must have been very unlucky, we have visited this restaurant on many occasions and have found both the food and the service excellent. The most recent visit was with a large group of friends all of whom left vowing to return. The suburbs need more restaurants of this calibre, well done Bogarts Place
We arrived with low expectations but high hopes - sadly it all came to nothing. These people know nothing about running a restaurant. The service was poor - our waitress really didn't want to be there and had little knowledge of the food on offer.
Our food (lamb shanks and Guinness Pie) was not well cooked and the kitchen staff was fixing a lightbulb in the middle of the restaurant while we ate. Shock horror!
The best food I've tasted for many a year. It was real food with great taste. I had a soup entree which was excellent & Chicken breast done to perfection. The first time I've cleaned my plate for years & didn't leave a scrap. Plunger coffee was delicious.
