Great place to have dinner. The food was nice. The service was great and the staff (I am guessing owners) take great pride in their establishment. Main features, decorations and dessert, how do those cows carry those big bells!

Went here recently for dinner on a Saturday night with 3 friends. We had a nice night, but didn't think it was anything special, so would try elsewhere next time.
Beware the cheese fondue has an extremely strong taste of alcohol. They only use a small amount making it and is cooked off, but the smell and flavour remain, and I felt it overwhelmed the dish, so that you couldn't distinguish any other spices or flavour of the cheeses.
Thought they could have a few more options on the menu. The only option for vegetarians, really, is the rosti, which I wish I had actually had, as the fish was nothing special at all.
We enjoyed the cuckoo clocks and the service was good and knowledgeable. Give it a try if you like Swiss food, but don't expect anything amazing.

Reading through these reviews I will say one thing, cheese fondue is Supposed to have a strong wine flavour. The Swiss Cottage fondue is absolutely delicious and for these reviewers to complain of it being 'too winey' is like saying a steak is too beefy.
The tasty homestyle meals, friendly and attentive service and cosy atmosphere make this one of our favourite restaurants to visit. If you are looking for snooty, upperclass, 'five-star' dining then don't visit the Swiss Cottage as you will be served with a smile and a laugh, and a meal that actually fills the plate, perfection.

I want my 160$ back, waste of money waste of time. Was less than satisfied with the service, food was absolutely beyond terrible, I ordered coq au vin a dish I often make, it was terrible, is it supposed to look like sludge? can't belief I paid 26$ for a chicken wing sitting in sludge. The potato rosti was burnt, the drink they served me was yucky and the dessert was so tiny I barely could see it, I left hungry and disappointed.
For a romantic 3 course dinner I think it ruined my night, the poor date was pretty disappointed too. He and I won't go back, plus the snooty senior staffs should grow up and stop being so rude to the staff. We can hear everything you are saying. You're horrible.

We came here for dinner, booked last minute and luckily they had a spot for us at 6 pm on a Saturday night. We had to leave at 8 pm which was plenty of time because we ended up leaving at 7:15 pm. It is cash only, so remember to withdraw!
Fantastic ambience. When you first arrive, the cottage is warmly lit, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. There were families there, but also couples. Service was excellent. Staff friendly, smiling, and welcoming.
Food: For entree, we had escargots which was quite heavily flavoured in garlic but was very tasty. We also ordered Rosti Forestiere (mushrooms sauteed with shallots, white wine and a dash of cream). The waiter explained to us Rosti is like a gourmet hash brown. Will definitely be having that again. Loved it!
The main we decided because it was such a windy cold night, we had cheese fondue. It was $50 for two, and the serving was very generous. It was a very filling main, and we weren't able to finish it. I have to admit I was quite disappointed in the fondue because the white wine was too empowering. The main was a bit of a let down for me but otherwise the food was excellent!
A very enjoyable night. Next time we will probably bring a couple of more friends there.

I've been to this restaurant a few times now. Love the cheese fondu and also the raclette in winter.

The staff at the Swiss Cottage were friendly, informative, good-humoured and showed initiative to make sure we ordered the rosti and the sausage with the cheese fondue because of their apparent complementing flavours, unfortunately, we did not enjoy the food.
We were excited about trying the cheese fondue, and we ended up sharing the single fondue for one, which was more than enough for two people, however, there was a really off-putting taste to the cheese from the wine which had been used, I was very disappointed and so was my partner and so glad we didn’t order the fondue for two, I just couldn’t eat it, I certainly tried. I would really like to know what wine they used because it dominated the cheese.
We both ordered the Sausage wrapped in pastry with a potato rosti. The sausage was huge and we battled to eat the entire rich sausage. It was not what I expected, what it really needed was something to offset the richness, with some vegetables, perhaps, and or a cream sauce. I had envisioned a sausage mince which was rolled in pastry and cut into medallions but we received a bratwurst sausage inside some pastry.
The rosti was tiny, and lacked seasoning. As we left I noticed the unmotivated chef in the kitchen using a tea cup to make the rostis, the lack of passion he was exhibiting reflected the food well. If the passion that the wait staff showed were reflected in the food then it would have been outstanding.
The ambience was warm and inviting and comfortable. For a small fondue, 2 pieces of garlic bread, and 2 sausages with miniature rosti, at $85 dollars for such simple food, without dessert just for lunch, it was a bit rich. There was nothing complex or inspiring about the food.
To put it in perspective we recently enjoyed a banquet with four entrees and four mains, and gelato birthday cake from the best gelato place in town, and even had it picked up and brought across to the restaurant by the staff, for about forty dollars a head. The food was scrumptious, complex and well presented and the service second to none.
I wish I could be more praiseworthy of the food at the Swiss Cottage, because the staff were extremely nice people. We will not be returning to the Swiss Cottage based on such ordinary food and exorbitant prices.

We went here because of the reviews and were not disappointed. The place is just delightful, both the waiter and waitress were lovely. We had the raclette which was simply delicious. After a few mulled wines we even managed to fit in a dessert. We will definitely be going back next time we are in the mountains. If you are not staying at the cottages then Lurline House just down the road is also gorgeous. Also the wine list although not extensive is very reasonably price, especially by the glass.

Very impressed with this restaurant. The menu is simple, but everything we tried (two entrees, two mains, a dessert and a side) was exquisite! The service was also phenomenal. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area!
