We were visiting from Sydney and decided to try this place over the Easter long weekend. We called and made a reservation and the staff member said he would call us back if we could be slotted in an earlier time. He did, and left a very friendly message on my voicemail.
The service was very friendly despite being quite busy and the food superb to match. The complimentary bread was actually one of the nicest breads I've ever had the liver entree just as good. In fact, the whole meal was so enjoyable that I daresay I may drive down from Sydney just to dine here.
A special mention to Stuart who was as lovely over the phone as he was in person when we arrived. Sydney needs more waiters like yourself.

Dining on New Year’s Eve at Silks was absolutely superb. They served a degustation menu of 5 fabulous courses. The service was most professional and welcoming; and the flavours, textures and presentation of the food excellent. We enjoyed every course starting with cream of lobster bisque with mild horseradish cream and tempura prawn and ending with a magnificent Bombe Alaska.
For our main we selected Beef Wellington with Madeira sauce served with a variety of seasonal greens vegetables. A very memorable meal! To add to the atmosphere a delightful Scotsman appeared playing his bagpipes during the evening for a short while. What an appropriate touch of New Year’s Eve. We thoroughly enjoyed our night.
One tiny suggestion would be for Silks to provide an optional list of suggested wines to accompany each course. Of course, they would need to be tiny glasses for 5 courses!

We were looking forward to a nice evening celebrating our anniversary. The meal was extremely disappointing, I had the kangaroo it was totally overcooked, so tough, we all know not to overcook kangaroo with a "dressing" on top, all I tasted was vinegar from start to finish. The waitress said that is how he cooks, I don't like that way, I like flavours that compliment, All together disappointing.

Fantastic restaurant, the service and food was outstanding, having moved to the mountains recently its good to find a worthwhile restaurant. My husband insisted I have an entree, but with entree, complimentary bread and a main, I had no room left for dessert, which was really disappointing as the desserts are my weakness, will just have to go back!
Our one and only gripe would be that the wooden chairs aren't overly comfortable for longer than one hour, and if you having a nice dinner where you are relaxing enjoying lovely food a comfortable chair goes a long way, normally we wouldn't mention, but we noticed another couple looking at their chairs after a while too.
Definitely be back.

As usual this restaurant never disappoints. Fantastic selection of high quality meals and accompanying wines at reasonable prices. Don't change a thing. We will definitely be back.

We dined at the lovely Silk's on a Monday night during the school holidays where it was busy but not full. The service was attentive and helpful with food/ wine recommendations but sadly went MIA after we'd finished our mains (dessert anyone?). We shared the following between two:
Entree: roasted pumpkin salad (main size). Main: beef tenderloin and roasted salmon. Dessert: sticky date pudding.
The salad (a mediterranean/ mexican fusion) was an excellent entree with a fresh mix of flavours and textures. The mains were typical of modern fare, well cooked and presented, however, the undercooked potato side to the salmon let down the dish. The sticky date pudding to finish was classical with the highlight the accompanying candied ginger + pineapple compôte.
With two glasses of wine, the bill came to $140. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area - book ahead.

Silk's Brasserie is a nicely decorated little restaurant in the main strip of Leura.
My partner and I booked ahead to ensure a table (advised - you can even do this online through their website!). We had already had a look at the menu the day before as my partner is a vegetarian to make sure she had something to eat.
We were first treated to some amazing complimentary fresh in-house baked bread infused with honey. I'm very fussy when it comes to bread and this was some of the best I've had the pleasure of eating.
We are fairly light eaters, so we shared the;
'Shortcrust tartlet of fresh Jannei goat curd, pickled pear, confit tomato, toasted macadamias, hazelnut vinaigrette dressing, witlof + cress salad'
for the entree which was nothing short of perfect. Simply put, a really fantastic mix of flavours.
For the main course, I ordered the;
'Tenderloin of grain-fed beef with Dauphinoise potato, veal sweetbreads, Dutch carrots, onion jam + red wine jus'
There are two kinds of sweetbreads: stomach sweetbreads, which are an animal's pancreas, and neck (AKA throat or gullet) sweetbreads, an animal's thymus gland. I gave it a try and it's not to everybody's taste. Luckily it was only a small part of the dish, and the steak was a perfectly cooked high quality cut of beef. It was the most expensive dish in a range of fair priced mains at a moderate $39. However, the red wine jus was a little too intense in flavour and overpowered the fine cut of beef.
I can't speak for the taste of my partner's warm salad with pumpkin etc but it looked very nice, and there was plenty of it!
We were really looking forward to the crème brulée but by dessert, there was no way we could fit anything else in!!
The waitress was very friendly and gave us some complimentary chocolates with the bill to fill that 'sweet spot' :)
The service and food were very high quality as you would expect, but as a poor full-time student, I couldn't imagine what the bill would have looked like if we were big eaters (entree, main, dessert) and winedrinkers! The ambience was also very nice and we managed to get a seat next to the gas 'fire' which was nice on a cold, rainy night.
Just wanted to note that the price is justified by the high quality of food and service. It's just that I'm not normally a patron of fine restaurants and would sometimes rather share a $20 woodfired pizza with my partner (as we did the next night at 'The Garage' aroung the corner).
Summary
If you like fine dining, you can't go past Silk's while in the mountains.

One of the mountains better restaurants. Very good attentive service with great recommendations. Myself and my partner enjoyed entrees, mains and dessert and all three were a hit without a doubt! It's our second time there and have had two great nights and will be back in the near future. Worth checking out for sure.

In our entire state in Leura for a planning weekend Silks Brasserie is by far the best restaurant we have eaten at.
Initially we tried to dine on Saturday but at short notice they were fully booked, good for us because we got in for the Sunday night at 7 pm.
Prior to our arrival we checked their site for a menu and noted that on a Saturday or Sunday night there is a minimum food charge of $50.00 per person. This did surprise us as did the reference to 10% surcharge on public holidays (they need to change that part because you can't charge a % surcharge) but I digress.
I arrived first and was seated in a prime window table. The staff were all attentive and pleasant. We each had an entree and main, and even with our quirks they followed or order exactly. All the meals were well-presented and certainly well worth the price. Total bill for three people including wine came to $240.00 which was not bad for a 'high class' restaurant in Leura.
We would highly recommend you dine at Silks on your next stay in Leura or even Katoomba but I suggest that if you want to dine on a Saturday you book well in advance.
