It's a little bit off the main drag and a bit hard to find but it's a wholesome and good quality Japanese restaurant. The food is an adequate mix of authentic and modern, and the sushi is yummy. Very good value, and the service is warm and friendly.

After living in Tokyo myself this restaurant brings back memories for me. Although not fancy or upper class the locals should be counting themselves lucky to have this near by. I will be back to try their cuisine in the near future. Arigato!

We live in Blackheath, and yes I know the Mountains doesn't have the variety and generally quality that you would expect, but for the Sushi Connoisseur, Hana offers some of the best and simplest Japanese cuisine available in Australia, the master chef, is at the top of the tree when it comes to preparation and appearance, the quality of produce is wonderful and portion sizes are generous.
Service can be slow and the young staff are not knowledgeable or experienced, so asking for help or advice is frustrating. Overall the food stands out as some of the best money can buy, so from that point of view, it's a huge thumbs up. We also get frequent take away, which is probably the best way to enjoy the Hana experience.

I wish I could say something nice but the entire experience was ruined by the fact that my lactose intolerant 7 yr old daughter was denied 1 or 2 strawberrys by the senior staff that we offered to pay for, when the rest of the table were eating ice cream and cake, the only items on the dessert menu. Very disappointing really.

I live in the mountains and Hana is an old family favourite, I've been here many times and have mixed feelings about it. As far as I'm aware, the nearest available japanese is sushi train in penrith (50 minutes from leura). The reason we probably come here so often is that the selection of restaurants in the mountains is limited. Jap restaurants I've been to which are closer to Sydney have been better in terms of service, value, and variation in the menu, as well as the dishes themselves.
I do like the ambience though and leura is a charming village. Good if you're visiting the mountains and on a budget as other places in the area are generally expensive (besides pubs, chinese and thai). The tempura in sushi roll was 'different', in a good way (I was surprised!) and the green tea icecream is lovely.

I'm a resident of the mountains, and my wife and I find this place very frustrating. Japanese food is by far our favorite and we have eaten at many a fine Japanese restaurants and Hana isn't one of them. I'm sure the owner thinks his clientel have never experienced good Japanese food before. The menu is very limited and with the bulk of selection being california rolls. The trouble with this place is there is no competition. We get our Japanese fix when we head down to Sydney.

We decided to go to Hana on the Saturday night of the October long weekend on the spur of the moment, and are very glad that we took a chance on this place. Service was attentive and friendly, even though the place filled up very very quickly! We had fish cakes, mixed sashimi (beautiful!) and some assorted nori rolls...all fresh, all delicious.
We were happily fed, had paid and were on our way within 30 minutes, all to the tune of $43 including drinks. Hana isn't fancy by any means, but I think that's some of its charm. I would definitely recommend this place for a good value, simple, enjoyable meal.

I was expecting great things from this place but was a bit let down. Menu choices were very limited. Everything was ridiculously bland. The sushi was good. Ambience good. Tsunami sake cocktail pretty yum (check out the sake brewery in penrith).

After hearing about a Japanese restaurant in the Blue Mountains (my home town) I couldn't wait to go and try it out. I went here a few weeks ago with some friends, the place was packed which was great to see and ambience was also good.
However, I was slightly puzzled in why after making us wait for so long to be served until I was about to feast on the wooden table all our food came at once instead of staggering it. The food on offer let me down a little also as I had heard such good things about the establishment and after looking at the menu was a little let down. I was expecting more variation with bigger and bolder flavours and just found the place didn't deliver this what so ever. Still had a good time though nonetheless.

A mountain gem! I've been here many times and the food is always delicious. The service is not 100%, although that's just the mountains. You get used to the relaxed attitude everyone has.
As it's always busy, you have to book most times, even during the week, and you may wait a while for your takeaway, but it's well worth it!
