Good local and imported selection, very moderately priced.
A local tradition which has recently began opening for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights as well as serving great lunches 5 days a week.

I don't like the Bay Tree anymore, probably because I am comparing it with how it was under the previous owner/chef (David I believe). It is great that the new owners now open for brekky and dinner but the food, while ok, does not compare with the 'fine cuisine' that used to be served. The new menu has been stripped right back and most of the offerings are not suitable for winter.
Moreover, they have knocked down an internal wall to make more room and now, even with three fireplaces burning, the place is freezing on a cold night. I understand that the new owners are trying to improve the place and make a profit but for me it is simply not working.

I visit the Bay Tree whenever I am passing through or staying in Mount Victoria. The staff are just terrific and always have time for a quick chat if not too busy. The coffee is the best in town. Thank god they now open on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. The evening meals available at the other venues, Manor House, Imperial Hotel and Victoria and Albert Guest House are very ordinary at best. We used to have to go to Blackheath for a decent evening meal but now we can stay in Mount Vic, have a nice meal at the Bay Tree with a bottle or two and not worry about drink driving. I thoroughly recommend the Bay Tree

Had my husband's birthday lunch here, very quiet, hardly anyone there but it was a Friday, food was excellent, service great and it was nice to sit on the verandah watching the world go by. Really enjoyed ourselves, will go again.

We just popped in for a late afternoon tea on a friday. It was pretty quiet, just one other table. But 2 fireplaces going and such a nice atmosphere. We all ordered devonshire tea. 2 with hot chocolates for the kids. Such a generous serving of cream and jam. (too many times you run out but not his time!) scones were wonderful and fresh, huge! service was very friendly and the whole experience very welcoming.

Grabbed some take-away coffee here. The staff were obliging when I asked if they could fill our travel mug rather than waste a take-away coffee cup. The place looked cosy with log-fire. Waited a few minutes for 2 coffees.

We visited the Bay Tree on a really busy, windy and cold Spring afternoon. Service was fairly quick despite it pretty much being a packed house. We only had scones (what we usually have there) and they were pretty good but not as big (and rustic) as what they used to be. The Bay Tree has lost a little of its ambience since the expansion into the neighbouring property. It's not quite as cosy as it used to be, but I would still be willing to drive the extra 15/20 minutes from Katoomba to have quality scones there.

I love going to Baytree. The service is great, very friendly and usally fast expect when it's busy. Then there is a little wait but that's to be expected. The food is great and wide ranging from toasty soup to hearty pies and great value for money. However the meals are always so big I always leave with a belly ache cause it's so tasty but I usually can't fit it in. Me and my friends love going there.

Drove up from sydney and stopped in for lunch, lovely place with lots of open fires to keep us warm. Service a little slow but friendly. Coffee excellent and they serve an awesome hot chocolate. Food tasty, prompt and well priced. Couldn't help but over indulge in the lollie shop. Will be abck again.

All the previous reviews were done last year. I had fond memories of the Ploughman's lunch last year and was looking forward to it on a rainy day 3 weeks ago. What a disappointment! After a lengthy wait, we were seated. Another wait before menus arrived, no Ploughman's but pies, Turkish bread, the usual. One soup.
We ordered a turkey Turkish, fresh squeezed juice, coffee and beef pie ($18.00 with chips and salad). After 45 minutes the juice and coffee had arrived, juice freshly squeezed in a bottle, coffee very average. We eventually caught the attention of a guy who was pulling in customers from outside, and he was able to get the food to the table.
It was awful. The meanest Turkish sandwich I have had, one slender piece of turkey, invisible cheese, less than ordinary. My husband's beef pie was chicken, looked great but was so dry he couldn't finish it. Didn't appear to be home-made and if it was I wouldn't claim it as my own. This was altogether a disappointing experience and I won't be going back. I will be interested to hear of any other diners' opinions.
