We're glad we visited this hotel for dinner. The food was great huge serving's of salt and pepper squid and up there with the best we have eaten, yummy fish and chips, good steak. The side salad was enough for five of us, it was huge. Our waitress was delightful, I should have asked her name so that I could let management know how good she is, she was so friendly, happy and helpful. Recommend for a good pub feed.

I love the Alex. I've been there many times and haven't had a bad meal to date. I generally order from the 'pub menu'; the chicken burger is really good, and they give you plenty of fries so you're pretty full by the end of it. Service is really good - nice to sit out in the beer garden with friends, a seriously good burger and a vodka lemon, lime and bitters.

Good pub Meal. Decent service. Good atmosphere.
We came here from an unfortunate experience at PinS on Megalong. 2 hours after being at PinS and not even getting our Entree, we left and scooted up to Alexandras in Hope the kitchen was still open. They were happy to take our late order and served us with professionalism even though we could see the kitchen was a little surprised for the late order.
I had the King Prawn entree wish was Ok. We both had the chicken pie which was served with Fries and salad. Good tucker! I'd go there again.

This Hotel/Pub has to have the best atmosphere, staff and all round great vibe! For somebody who is used to the hustle and bustle of the Sydney nightlife, this was a welcomed stay at the Alex in Leura. With special mention to Michelle and Phil, they are an asset to this business, and an absolute pleasure to chat with, they are extremely helpful and friendly, as are all the staff at the Alex.
With a cosy bar, and excellent meals. The themed nights are fantastic with great acts and entertainment. I would be more than willing to recommend this to friends of mine as a place to visit on the way through for a nice meal, or for some great hospitality. I commend the tremendous efforts and work being done at this fine establishment. Well Done!

W ent there a few months ago for dinner and drinks on a nice autumn afternoon/ evening. The outdoor dining was excellent. Went there on a monday night, parmigiana night. The servings were huge and delicious! the only downside was the bar tenders who were a bit rude and also some kind of problem with the beer taps. (also think it is pretty awesome that management are so on the ball and concerned about customer suggestions/complaints etc).

We dined here on a quiet Sunday night. After some drama finding the place from Leura town (we drove around in circles trying to follow a sign that said “Alex Hotel 50 metres”, eventually we gave up, parked on the main street and walked 50m along a unlit path above the railway line) we settled down to enjoy a pleasant evening at the Alex! (I guess it would have been easier to access the hotel from the Gt Western Hwy but we weren’t familiar with the area and got sidetracked by That sign).
First we had a drink at the bar and then decamped to the main dining room for our evening meal. (Patrons should note that there is also an option to eat at the bar where prices are a bit cheaper and the fare more basic, but that would mean sitting on uncomfortable bar stools and eating at a counter, so we elected to pay a little extra and enjoy the comfort of the newly refurbished main dining room).
We were happy with our decision because the dining room is a homely place with a fireplace, carpets, comfy chairs and adequately sized tables. I especially liked the colour scheme of the walls: a range of rich tones of ochre, grey and white.
It’s not big, with, perhaps, 12-15 tables of which 3 or 4 were occupied, one with a large family group. So we weren’t the only diners but were easily able to get a table.
Our sole waiter cum maitre d’ was courteous and efficient if unsmiling and everything went off smoothly except that he forgot to bring the garlic bread starter. It was brought after the main meals. But I’ll forgive him for that little slip because the garlic bread was so delicious: a generous serve that was soft, buttery and piping hot.
For mains we ordered the special which was veal scaloppine with asparagus in white wine sauce and the beer battered snapper fillets. The veal was tender although it lacked taste but the fish was delicious: nicely presented in a good, sized portion with plenty of salad and chips.
All up, that cost us a reasonable $46 for the garlic bread and the two mains.
Overall this place is efficiently run and works well. Service is quick, food is good and portions are adequate.
The hotel toilets are clean and spacious but don’t you just hate those 1980s style hand dryers where you have to wait an hour for your hands to dry? Come on guys, how about updating them to one of those newer models that they have in Westfield shopping centres that dry your hands in 10 seconds flat or have some hand-towels?
There’s easy parking in the hotel car park (so no need to trek from Leura Town, just come straight off the Highway). Next time we’re in Leura we wouldn’t hesitate to come back to the “Alex”.

We dined as a group of 15 on a Thursday night. Kitchen closed at 9 pm sharp without warning. Coffee machine off at 8.45 no warning. No dessert or coffee. No service and lights turned off at 9.30 pm leaving diners in the dark.
Response from Management:
Hi tibay it's Carmel again, after a staff meeting yesterday I thought it’s important to present the facts of the night you refer too. Your booking was made for 7.00pm with your party arriving at 7.50pm, you were offered desserts but because it was after 9.00pm it was the cold desserts and it was explained to you that the chef had finished for the night, some of your party took up the offer of desserts. The licensee Michelle at 9.30pm went to the kitchen to get milk for the bar and accidently used the wrong switch which left the dining area in darkness for 45 seconds. She then went to the end of your table and apologised and said there was no hurry for you to leave. tibay please be aware that comments like you made could cost a wait staff their job so maybe you will rethink about your actions in writing down incorrect facts on a public site. Sadly for me it is the first time I have experienced a site such as this and you have taught me how little value they are when people like yourself can damage a business so easily. Carmel Blackburn

The dining room at the rear is a good place for dinner. It seems there’s a special most weeknights. When we were there on a Monday night, it was “schnitzel night”, generous serves, good chips, friendly service and very good prices! The other of us had the fish (snapper), substituting vegetables for chips and was very contented. Drinks are at pub prices. Note that the hotel is just off the Great Western Hwy at Leura, on the access road, and the dining room is around the back. You either enter via the main bar area, or else through the back door, from the back garden.

I enjoy a pub meal, usually. Seems like the kitchen staff is trying to box above his weight. While the menu looked good, the execution was lacking. When it arrived it looked like something I would cook at home, mash and meat, removed the terrible sauce with my napkin and ate my meal plain. Sorry won't be back and won't be recommending it as an option for my peers.
Response from Management:
Can you give feedback on day of week, menu choice eg a la carte, bar or specials so this can be followed up? It’s not that it makes a difference all choices should be perfect but it will just help us pin point the problem. Carmel Blackburn
