I chose to dine at Tiffany Thai tonight because it was one of only four restaurants in the Chinatown stretch of Gouger St which were crowded at 8:30 this evening (a Wed) and there were a couple of dishes I had never seen on a Thai restaurant menu before. And certainly the young waiter and waitress were helpful and friendly, the decor comfortable and clean, and there was a $22 entree-and-main special available.
Unfortunately, these generally positive points could not make up for the totally abysmal quality of the food. I chose the 'Salt and Pepper Chicken with Mango', which I thought sounded unusual. It turned out to be slightly overcooked battered pieces of chicken in a mild flavourless curry sauce. Any mango content was undetectable (as was the S&P). Someone had added cashews which at least tasted all right, but didn't save the dish.
Perhaps, in Adelaide crowded restaurants are to be avoided.

This place is pseudo Thai cuisine. Just like the Tiffany lady boys in Thailand, don't expect much. For entree we had prawns wrapped in spring roll pastry and deep fried served on a bed of iceberg lettuce. You know you,re in average-ville and I swear this style of presentation is rampant throughout many restaurant along Gouger street! The barramundi red curry and beef rendang fared better but when you find slice carrots and spring onions in your Thai curry, you can be sure the chef is anything but Thai. Heavy on coconut.
We paid $50 for entree, 2 mains and 1 beer. The mainly mainland China staff was pleasant and attentive (that night only 4 tables full) but I wonder how it will be if they were busy.
